Hi everyone, I Just found out today that I have mild COPD. I'm only 26 and have 2 children. I was smoking and plan on quitting after this pack. Im Just really scared and don't know what to expect in the future. Will it get worst even if I quit smoking? Can it go away?

OK, calm down. You have come to the right place.

I'm new to this too, but 30 years older than you.

STOP smoking now, get to a vaping shop, invest in a mod/tankwith a 3mg nic juice.

You will feel no withdrawl, after a coupleof months you'll be ready to jack the vape too.

It's scary cause the docs tell us nowt. But spend two hours browsing this forum and check out the BLF site and you'll know what to do.

Something elsewill get us if we follow the rules, mild is good.

Hello kbaby, welcome to BLF forum. I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis at such a young age. What made you go to the doctors? Just interested but well done for going.

I believe you can remain mild for a very long time, especially if you make some vital changes to your life. You're doing the first one which is quitting the cigs - no need to finish the pack though. Cigs are so toxic so good for you on your decision.

Regular exercise is the next thing along with keeping to a healthy diet and weight.

Avoiding catching colds/viruses (difficult with little children I know). Build up your immune system ready for the winter.

All the very best to you. Peege

Hi

I endorse all the above, being the housewife, be aware that household products can be a trigger which will not only impact on your breathing (warning sign) but could worsen your condition.

Smoking although the major cause, any toxic smoke or fumes can be the cause and will irritate the condition.

Hi I am sorry to hear that. Because of your young age the doctor should check you for the genetic link - called Alpha1 Deficiency. This is just a simple blood test. Have/had any of your close family suffered from lung problems? It can run in families. x

Hi there. From what I read here many COPD patients live long and productive lives. By staying away from irritants, exercise and healthy living I am sure you will do so too.

Having two children you're likely to be very busy. Do try to make time for yourself. Be kind to yourself.

Hoping you have a marvellous day today.

Cas xx 🌼👋

Hi, Kbaby90, and welcome to the site. I have moderate COPD and at a check up last month, my results were the same as before diagnosis in December 2014 - no deterioration at all. I do all of the above: healthy eating, exercise (walking and singing), avoiding people with colds and air pollutants that irritate my chest including smoking, taking the meds prescribed and getting problems checked out by my GP, Respiratory Nurse or the Pharmacist.

Look on your mild diagnosis as a wake up call and use it as a springboard to a healthier lifestyle.

Welcome to the site,Kbaby. The others have given you excellent advice. Couple questions for you.😊 Did you have a spirometry test? Also did the Dr. give you inhalers? Also, as Cough said, were you checked for Alpha 1 deficiency. You're really young to have copd. Just wondering how the Dr. came to this conclusion. We're all here, to answer any questions you may have. ☺Rubyxx 😊

Hi Kbaby. Sorry to hear that you have been dx with COPD at such a young age. You have been given some good advice. I would like to add that stopping smoking will slow down the progression of COPD. You might feel a bit worse at the beginning but that is due to all the stuff coming out of your system. If you need help with stopping HU have a site called quit support I am a member of it. Just type quit in the search bar at the top of the page and click on quit. They are very friendly and you will get all the help you need. Also eating healthly and exercise will help too. Take care x

Hi kbaby please don't be scared, the others have given you good advice, whilst there is no cure for COPD yet (though at your age there may well be in the future) it need not necessarily get worse, good luck with the smoking, hard I know but it is essential to stop. Take care x

Just saying hello kbaby90 . Others have given you excellent advice. Ditch the cigs as you plan to do. Avoid irritants, excercise & heat healthily. You should be fine for many years to come. X
