Welcome to the group. I gave up in 1992 and have a multitude of lung and heart conditions including Emphysema. My Mother in law had it and never smoked but was surrounded by smokers and in her growing years people were allowed to smoke anywhere. It can be because of a number of factors not just smoking, pollution, chemicals etc.
Feel free to ask any question on here as there will be someone that has experienced it I am sure? We are a friendly bunch.
Be Well
Hi nice to meet you and welcome to the site. It is very common for ex smokers ( even if they stopped such a long time ago) to end up with lung disease. Maybe there had been damage to your lungs during that time which went unnoticed but as we age our lung function does decline naturally.
Remember the actor Leonard Nimoy (Spock in Star Trek)? Well he smoked from the 60's until the 80's then packed it in. He got emphysema and passed a couple of years ago. Mind you he was in his early 80's. If he hadn't stopped then he would probably have died years earlier.
You don't say what stage you are at but if the early stages then having a healthy lifestyle can work wonders and hold it stable for many years. x
Hi and welcome to the site, it's hard sometimes to come to terms with an illness but don't let it rule your life. Stay positive it does help, and exercise along with healthy eating. Live your life as normal you will feel so much better. Hope this helps, looking forward to reading your posts. Have a lovely weekend and take care of yourself 😊 Bernadette xx
Welcome. Folk here are caring, understanding and knowledgeable. So do keep posting so you get the support, which is as good as any medication you can take. Good wishes.
Hello and welcome, like you I stopped 27 years ago but the damage was already done. Hopefully you are not too severe and at least we can console ourselves that it would have been far worse if we had not given up (small consolation when you are feeling rough sorry). Take care, exercise as much as possible and stay away from smoke!
Thankyou to all for your responsesI don't know enough of what to expect in the future
I use Anoro once a day and have ventolin as a backup but the times I am affected are on exertion when I am short of breath with a tight chest Is that what it is about?
Hello and welcome
