Gerd
Yes I have IBS-D and after extensive invasive tests, the last one, where I had a tube down my nose overnight, shows I have moderate to severe reflux, which is worse at night but apparently doesn’t cause me to cough. I have been on PPIs for quite a while now, but as I wasn’t allowed to take them 7 days before the test, although I could take Rinitidine until 2 days before, and I had gone through a weeks rebound reflux from withdrawing from PPIs, I thought it reasonable to try coming off them. Rinitidine has less side effects but is not as effective. Still trying to work out the least problematic medication which is effective.
Just wondering if you were on steroids and abs whilst in hospital and that this might be temporary - I do hope so.
Cx
Omeprazole should sort out your gerd pain quite quickly, it realy is a crippling pain isent it. If not go back to your gp. As your ecg and bloods were abnormal the test should be repeated in a week or so just to check they have gone back to normal and thear are no more problems. I hope you are feeling better soon
Thank you so much....the pain is quite debilitating x
Despite being on lansoprazole for years I have being suffering with GERD very badly for the last few days whereas before it would only last a day. Sore throat, mouth and tongue. Despite copious amounts of gaviscon still no relief. I thought it might be down to a change in medication but not so sure. Off to the GP soon me thinks. Hope you recover soon
I suffer from GERD though I think it's on the mild side as the omeprazole seems to keep it under control. Like cofdrop-UK I had the test with the tube down my nose overnight when I was first diagnosed. I don't know about anyone else but I'm on a cocktail of drugs these days and when I get a symptom such as burning in the back of the throat or a funny tummy I find it's very difficult to pinpoint which might be the culprit!
Sorry to hear that you're having such a tough time. If the pain doesn't go down I'd definitely look to get in touch with the hospital to see if there's anything they can do. I hope the flu is on it's way out - were you put on antibiotics?
Thank you for your reply...ah yes the flu has now gone although I'm now waiting to pick up my second rescue pack as it is still on my chest...I'm taking omeprazol and sucking on rennies as the pain in my upper abdomen is agony x
I seem to only get gerd just before or during a COPD infection/ flare up so it’s very confusing often if it is gerd or my lungs causing the cough/ pain/ sputum.!! Nothing ( antacids/ omeprazole , lansoprazle etc seems to help for a least 2 weeks.
Everyone has already offered good advise and this may sound silly but have you tried Bicarbonate of soda? 1/2 cup of warm water and a tea spoon of bicarb once a day has helped me and it does not react with other meds from what I understand.
Oh I will try that thank you as I'm so close to throwing myself down the stairs just to take my mind off the pain...sorry, as you can tell it's making me very grumpy x
