Lung Function Tests

Good morning. I'm a first time poster on this forum.

I've been referred for Mitral Valve Repair as a result of severe Mitral Valve Prolapse and I have to go for a Lung Function Test prior to my operation.

I had pneumonia as a child on three occasions and was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis.

I assumed my increasing breathlessness was due to pre-existing lung problems, however the various tests have shown that it is in fact due to my Heart problems.

I had a Lung Function Test in 2016 with the following results:

FEV 1 4.5 132% predicted

FVC 127% predicted

FEV/FVC 81% predicted

Does anyone know what these figures mean? My breathlessness has severely reduced over the last 2 years.

Hi David. Those stats looks amazing. I’m not a doctor, obviously, but I don’t see anything at all to worry about and in fact you’re above average! I can’t see how anything surprising would show up in your upcoming function test. Best of luck with the operation and wishing you a speedy recovery!

Best of luck with this Dave my Mum was VERY out of breath building up to her mitral valve repair it was her heart. Best of luck!

Welcome and with stats like that you do not need to be worrying. They are way above the norm.

I hope you get to the root of the problem.

Those results aren't indicative of an obstructive pattern for sure.
