Email from TV License

Just be careful if you have such an email sent to you asking for personal details about your TV license. Ours is free so I was a bit wary of the email.

I got two today and so checked with the official TV license website and there is a scam about . Be careful .

Yes I've had an email today but upon ringing direct it was all above board and no details were asked - just a confirmation I was paid up until Dec 2019! Thanks for being so vigilant and posting it here.

There has been several scams floating about for a while, one that says you have overpaid and a refund is due. Do not be fooled by it, they want your bank details, supposedly they need it to pay in the refund. Another wants you to download a supposed Java file, again do not click it or anything other links. Another wants you to click on a link that looks like it is the TVL website, but it is not, again do not click on it.

I have had a couple of them too, but I know they are fake straight away because we do not watch broadcast TV or IPlayer so we do not need or pay for a TV license. We stopped watching in 2006, 12 years ago.

I don’t have television so I don’t have a tv license and therefore don’t watch the bbc iplayer. I used to listen to the radio iplayer but a while ago it started asking for me to register before I could listen. So I stopped using it because I was concerned they’d start hassling me to get a tv license and not believe that I don’t have a tv. Do you use the bbc radio iplayer and if so did you register?

Yes , there are plenty of scams about as money gets tight with all the increases going on EG Fuel , Energy, Community charges coming along etc , but personally I have a bit of fun with them , by giving a load of rubbish to their enquiries ! - PLAY THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME ! ... it soon stops ! , as with Junk mail , i just write on the envelope = " Deceased !!! .... and pop it back in the post again - have reduced my Junk mail by 97% !! ..... = I " Died " four years ago !!...! HAVE FUN FOLKS ! .

Thanks for the info, scammers get into most things these days but they do seem to pray on us oldies more than most. Some of us are that stupid but they still keep trying.

Keep your eyes open for anything else.

I have had two today saying that my DD has been refused and my licence will expire. Looking at the details of those emails and the official one regarding tv licence the scam ones appear to orginate from something to do with Amazon. So I am guessing as I have shopped with Amazon in the last couple of weeks my email has been picked up from there
