Hi everyone and hope you are all well. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the following and able to offer any advice please?
Just been to the doctors because of pains in my legs which have been ongoing for quite a while. I am asthmatic and copd. Its mostly my calfs especially my right one. The veins stick out quite a bit and one area goes quite dark for a few days and sometimes a couple of weeks but when the darkness starts to fade I get a sort of bruised area on the inside of my leg just below the knee. Very sore to the touch. I have lumps and bumps all over my calves. The doctor has said I have varocose veins and thrombosed veins. I have been told I need to wear compression stockings (might do wonders for my love life lol). I have also been told I will have problems as I get older (51 at present). Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated and if anyone knows any way of maybe anything I can do to maybe reverse it?
Thankyou all so much
Rob

My husband wears the compression stockings due to atopic excema in both legs. His legs are first measured by a dermatologist to find out the correct type needed. Perhaps your doctor can refer you .
I don't think you can reverse it Rob, the best thing we can do is help protect the veins. My father had bunches of grapes veins in his legs, he had the op but still have very bad protruding veins. He wears supportive tights now, the boots firm support tights under his trousers to help support the veins.
I have veins right behind the knee like you but mine are not really protruding, however they do ache and are pain full from time to time, I have been prescribed the knee high compression hose, but to be honest they dig in on me right where the veins are (my veins are dark and one in the calf is only slightly protruding.)_ I am taking to wearing tights again through the winter months definitely to help support the veins and hopefully stop them getting worse. I do find its especially important to support the veins when they are aching and painful, it just gives them a bit of a helping hand I think.
Its worth protecting the veins I think.
If you find the compression hose difficult, do try the boots firm let support tights and any high denier type tights, any thing is better than nothing, and some of the tights today are actually quite nice to wear and keep the legs warmer too under trousers
Thankyou so much for your reply. The last time I wore tights was when I was in the army and during the winter when on exercise (over 30 years ago). Well it looks like my wife and I are going to have a good look in boots. You never know, I might get her worried and start looking at oversized skirts to see what her reactions will be lol.
