Prednisolone & asthma

Hiya my name is ashleigh.. hospital put me on prednisolone for 5 days six tablets every morning but my chest still feels blocked with muscus and on a night time my chest goes really tight and its hard for me to breath..i have just spent £7 on day&night nurse tablets but says dont take with respiratory problems ..anyone know what i can do to help me breath x

I would go back to your GP. You may well need a longer course of prednisolone.....or a different preventer inhaler. Your treatment seems not to be matching your needs at the moment. Best wishes, Ashleigh

And you may need an antibiotic along with the pred. How many days have you taken it for? It takes 3/4 days for it to kick in for me but that is usually a combination of pred and an antibiotic because of a chest/lung infection

my Dr advised the Prednisolone take a few days to kick in. It sounds like you might need some antibiotics too, they usually go together as a set for emergency treatment of exacerbations of COPD. Look after yourself, get better soon

Steroids do take a few days to kick in and I often find I don’t feel much better until a week or so after they are finished.

That said maybe you need antibiotics at the same time? The only time I took steroids without ABs was when I had a non infected flare up.

From your description it sounds as though you need another opinion
