At what point or reading do Gps or consultants give an oxygen cylinder . My husband is getting very near needing this now , so I want some knowledge before I approach , as we are already having issues between the hospital and Gp as to who pays for his medication . It gets so stressful .

Hi Daisy55 .
I read one of your old posts on another forum and your husband has Emphysema? Has his doctor broached the subject of oxygen with you or have you broached it with his doctor? If so, did they give any indication as to whether they will assess him for oxygen therapy?
I'm terribly sorry , I can't help with the medication expenses issue, I am not in the U.K. It is terribly stressful trying to get a handle on everything going on.
Sending you warm wishes,
Cas xx 🍁🍂
Hi
GPs are not responsible for oxygen therapy, you need a referral to your respitory team to arrange assessment.
For long term oxygen therapy LTOT, a Aterial Blood Gases Test is required to check oxygen levels at rest. for Ambulitory oxygen therapy a six minute walk test is conducted to check oxygen desaturation when mobile.
The point at which concerns are raised is your oxygen levels continue to below 88/90.
Oxygen therapy is given to protect major organs rather than breathlessness
Any particular reason you think oxygen therapy is required.
Don’t quite understand the issue regarding payment for medication this is free on prescription, although there are charges which can be reduced subject to circumstances, or prepaid.
I would certainly look into this medication issue you are having if you are UK dont we have free healthcare ?unless the medication is not on the NHS ? I myself am 32pc and have crappy ox levels now 93% At rest but can go lower sometimes I dread to think what it is when I try to do physical things lol to scared to measure xx
