So I did something out of the ordinary today. Drove 45 minutes to the Gulf of Mexico and took a swim, something I had not done in 2 years. Only stayed for about 15 minutes, but it was nice. It's a place called Dauphin Island. That's one of the longest drives I've made since my dx.

It is good to see you gaining a little more confidence in yourself. I travel everywhere on my own and using public transport, all it takes a little faith in yourself and your own capabilities. Really, there is nothing to fear, in fact you are probably braver than me by swimming in open water, which I would never do, but then I am stage 3/4 and never been a strong swimmer. Well done, now you can make that trip to he store with ease.
2greys, I might have overstated slightly when I said "swim." I waded into about waist-deep water and splashed around a bit, took a couple of dives. I've always been comfortable in the water. The Gulf is usually a pretty calm sea. Now, you do have to keep an eye out for the odd shark.
challny, I am very happy you took a nice swim....and a long drive, good for the soul!!
Keep on doing you!!!βΊβΊπ»π»
Take good care.

Thanks, megshafer. It was good for the soul. The Gulf of Mexico is beautiful. Maybe I can go even further next time. Hope you are doing well.
I'm ashamed to admit I can't swim and I never passed driving test.......hanging head in shame. IM so glad you took the plunge though and loved it. Well done ππ
AWESOME! Iβm very proud of you. It was fairly warm still? Water here in San Diego was 68 this morning, one of the guys said it was 70 this evening but everybodyβs putting on full wetsuits now. Where do you live in Alabama?
Well done. Maybe you will have the confidence to go again.
Well done you, wish we could do that here, think you could get frost bite in our seas ha! Send us a picture of your beach next time you go and keep up the positive attitude, great news. Irene x

Hi, glad you enjoyed the drive and swim. Best I can do nowadays is float on my back looking at the sky.
Keep well

Whereabouts did you go. I am envious π
I went to the Gulf of Mexico off the Alabama coast. @Nicholatracy, I read your posts and you said you have moderate emphysema. My FEV1 is supposedly 71 percent (according to my pulmonologist just 2 weeks ago) and I feel like I'm dying. I can barely do anything. I dragged myself to the Gulf to see it one more time. It's beautiful. Don't be envious of me. I was exercising a lot, too, until a couple of months ago.
That took guts. Well done you . ππ
Hi, @Annastatia. As a younger man, I would drive to the Gulf from Mobile to Destin, Fla., and run 5 or 6 miles before jumping in for a swim. These memories are killers.
Well done nice to hear youβve had a great dayπ
