I don’t know what suddenly made me think of chilblains. I suppose I was comparing problems I had then with the ones I have now. I’m doing ok thanks as I hope you and Pete are. 😘
That brings back long lost memory's Don ....I can hear my mam warning me I'd get chilblains if I did get my feet from in front of the the fire 😂 Wonder if today's generation have even heard of them, must ask my grandchildren, bet they look at me as if I've lost the plot ha ha. Xxx
I agree with joyce74 We love your ryhmes whatever their topic. I was about to say nothing is inappropriate for this forum but I was thinking more along the lines of chillblanes on a lung forum, I'm sure there are inappropriate things! 😄 So yes, please keep the ryhmes coming.
I remember them Don. Was it Snowfire ointment we used to put on them ? Sheila xx
Snowfire was for chapped hands, or knees when I wore short pants. I vaguely remember spit being the only thing to relieve the itch. Rubbed on with your finger unless your aim was good.
I remember the pain of chapped legs and chilblains....and red mottled legs from having to sit too close to the fire, while your back was freezing cold.
And dire warnings that you would melt the fat round your kidneys if you did turn your back on the fire.
Never had them, they can stay away.... I had enough Eczema to keep me itchy and hot thanks as a child. They look 'orrible. I still have some snow fire ointment which I put on my cracked finger ends, and you can still buy it. You have just reminded me of my Dad spitting on my itches and rubbing them. Reckon that is how I got the cold sore virus - absolutely revolting thought, but he meant well.
My gran's house had jack frost on the inside of the bedroom windows!!! no central heating then, chilblains normal, was always told it was my fault for warming up my fingers and toes too quickly!! at the end of a bad winter could have cracked and bleeding finger ends, wearing gloves indoors helped, nothing else seemed to.
I know exactly how it felt as a child with chilblains and am glad you no longer get them..........but unfortunately when you have Raynauds you have chilblains most of the year though they are worse in the winter, they did not know about this when I was young they were just chilblains!!
Yes I remember chilblains, hobbling to school, toes inside my boots bandaged up with strips of old sheets. I really suffered as I often had chilblains on my ears and thighs too. One year a teacher told our class to run, I just couldn't. Normally she was very strict, however, when I told her about my broken chilblains and she saw the mucky bandages, full of the goo that leaked from them, she carried me into school, I was excused p.e, and outdoor playtime until my feet healed. I still get chilblains because of Raynauds but nowhere near as badly.
