Have any of you experienced weight loss as an initial symptom. And not able to gain it back?

Weight loss
Yes, sort of. I went down to 7 1/2 stone and it took well over a year to build back up to a healthy 10 1/2 stone.
No loads of steroids so it's weight gain for me I'm afraid
Yes definitely. Gradually lost weight before diagnosed. Providing your BMI is within normal limits then it not a problem. In my case I was very under weight and required dietary advice and protein drinks for about 6 months. People with lung conditions can burn a lot of calories just breathing so a good balanced diet to meet those needs is vital. Like 2 Grey's I need to put on weight. If you are worried I would see your GP for referral to a community dietician.
I have lost about 3 stone in two years, not altogether disastrous as I was overweight, but I am still losing even though my BMI is good. The trouble is I have no appetite and so eating is a bore, and difficult as it takes a lot of effort.
Wish I could lose a few pounds it dosent happen
I wouldn't say it was an initial symptom. But I have lost 2 1/2 stone in 2 years. I have no appetite and findeating a chore. I was not over weight. So it is a worry. I seem to be losing 1lb a month.
Yes I lost a great deal of weight, I went down to nearly six stone, I was on drinks from the dietician for nearly three years, and had to go see him every few weeks. So you are not on your own, go see your GP and asked to be referred to the dietician, please let us know how you are doing, take care. Bernadette xx
If you are very underweight then the doctor can prescribe build up drinks on prescription so they could be free as well. x
Anxiety problems can make you lose weight and dim the appetite but i think we have been down that road before rigcu1.x
yes we have. I cant gain my weight back. That ha snever been a problem for me. I am maintaining but it worries me/ I went from 224 to 210 in 7 weeks. Headed back in to doc soon to take next steps.
I don’t know how tall you are but 210 doesn’t sound like you would be underweight which would seem to be more of a concern. If you are maintaining 210 and not losing anymore I’m not sure it would be a concern unless you are 7 feet tall. The concern if you are underweight is are you malnourished.
Supposing you are six ft your bmi is just under 30. You need to lose weight!
Did lose weight went down to 5.5stone but didn't realise it was I was having chest problems infections etc. Got rushed into hospital. After a few days of medication I started to eat which i thought strange asked nurseswho said I was on prednisone now back up to my normal weight. I do lose weight and appetite when I get an infection so I have them now as back up. Have a word with your GP or consultant
so for a while yes I had a lack of appetite, but I am eating again. I need to get peanut butter and maybe some low sugar protein drinks?
The opposite for me - gained weight (from the steroids and not able to be as active). Have since been eating more sensibly and it is coming back off - albeit much more slowly than it went on!
I lost a stone when I had pneumonia and put back on three pounds when on steroids. I’ve not put back on any more since which I’m glad of. I was nine stone nine. I’m now eight stone twelve. I’ve not got a good appetite especially for cooked dinners. I was always fine with a good roast but now I find it Yeuk! I prefer a salad or something with chips. I do do them healthily with fry light. Please don’t tell me fry light is bad for me. I only have them about twice a week. I did a cheese and potato pie the other night and had baked beans with it. My downfall though is chocolate biscuits. I like one with my coffee both in the morning and afternoon. I also have one if I fancy some chocolate. I think if you’re off your food you should eat little and often and eat what you fancy bearing in mind also what’s good for you. A little of what you fancy does you good.
I had the problem on and off for years...many years, one way to gain weight is to add condensed milk...like you cook and bake with to a milk shakes....it works...slowly but surely. Anxiety uses many calories.
