Chest infection
It takes time for your lungs to respond to you giving up smoking and feel the benefits. By giving up smoking I feel you will gradually reduce the amount of infection you get.
Well done with the coffin sticks! I also have had re occurrent chest infections usually October to January . Am trying nasal guard cold&flu block this winter hopefully to stop me picking any bugs up. Also vicks first defence to stop anything quick at the first sights. Also will use the nasal guard on the airplane next week. Hope it subsided soon. XX
When I gave up smoking I had withdrawal flu symptoms for some time - the body doesn't have many ways of trying to persuade you to go back on the addictive substance it's missing. Keep hanging on in there, and eat plenty of fruit and veg. Rosehip tea is good at boosting immunity, and if you don't like that you can always have rosehip syrup instead, like I do (though not scientifically proven the way the tea is).
I was getting regular infections (monthly) but have been much better this summer. However, my consultant has decided to try my on daily doxicycline from November to April to see if this cuts them down. I've never smoked but have COPD, asthma and bronchiectasis. xx Moy
I was having repeat chest infections despite taking doxycycline as a prophylactic antibiotic. I asked if there was a better one and was changed to azithromycin. I’ve only had one infection since then, and that was when I was having a break from them in the summer because ‘people don’t get chest infections in the summer!’
