Rehab?

Hallo. I was diagnosed with COPD about 4 years ago & have had a spirometry test recently. I think I was worse than last time as I was given another inhaler. Should I ask to be referred for pulmonary rehabilitation? I don't seem to get much guidance from the nurse or doctor

Hi Lesley sorry to hear about your COPD getting worse but did you ask your doctor or nurse outright about pulmonary rehabilitation?

It’s worth asking for a referral to pulmonary rehabilitation.

One hour exercise and one hour education twice weekly for six weeks.

Plus you get the encouragement to continue some form of home exercise.

Which will be very beneficial.

Do. I wasn't offered PR by my GP, but after reading others' posts on here I asked him to refer me and he was happy to do so (but had to ask the nursing staff as he didn't know how to do the referral). He said PR has great results in improving the lives of people with lung conditions.

I have to say I have learnt more from your COPD posts than I ever thought and I find it reassuring that other people have the same issues as myself. It makes it not so scary.Thanks
