Sorry no..it must be an elaborate PFT! Saved you a blood test or maybe a compilation of all past tests?

Good luck x

Is it your report for sure? Last time I got a density scan belonging to somebody else!

Yes it is.... Unless something came up on the CT scan that shows that or my spirometry test from my last one... My lung function went down by three percent.. And I don't smoke.... I'm confused about it all....

My ct scan showed damage at the bottom of my lungs which is the way alpha one antitrypsin usually goes. That may be where the diagnosis came from. A blood test is needed to be certain.

Hi Clamdigger. You need bloodtests to diagnose Alpha 1. Your family history and spirometry combined with your age, if young, may cause suspicion of the condition but cannot diagnose it. A test of your blood level will be done to start with - it it shows lower than normal levels then further blood tests will confirm the type of Alpha 1 you have. The first test results should be available within a week. Additional tests if needed take longer.

I kept saying to the Dr about this blood test the COPD clinic asked for me to get.....because she couldn't find the report she didn't give it to me.. She gave me my Pulmonary Report to show my lung capacity but didn't notice that part on the report .(.. There seems to be antitryspin deficiency .). That really cofused me why would it have it there... I got CT scans done four of them last year unless they put it on the same report... I go back in two weeks.. And I'm getting a hold of the Clinic to resend there report...I find you have to stay up on things...I know about have to get blood test but why that statement on the report unless they put on with CT report...

I suspect your ct scan might have shown damage to your lungs that is consistent with alpha 1 deficiency. Alpha one related emphysema sometimes affects different parts of the lung to the damage that occurs from smoking. This pattern cannot diagnose Alpha one only a blood test can do that but it would certainly raise suspicions that would trigger the need for a test. In your place I would insist your gp order the test. You will know in days if you are deficient. All the best. Z

I'm an Alpha --ie. I have the deficiency -- and it requires a blood test to be diagnosed.

All the Best!

From what I read about it yes you do ... The Dr when she gave me this Pulmonary Report it has this statement on it... I did have ct scans done last year unless you can see it in lung damage.... In two weeks I get to see her again.. I kept asking about the blood work but since she couldn't find didn't order it... I'll have to get a hold of the COPD clinic. get them to resend the information....

Anti trypsin is a blood test to see if there is a deficiency on the surface of your lungs that protect your lungs. At least that’s what I heard.

I find it is weird that it is on my report...I have to talk to the Dr I have had three in the past two years and things are getting missed..

I am Alpha 1. Determined by blood test. If you have never smoked and have COPD/Emphysema then this raises the red flag for Alpha deficiency. In simple terms, it's a protein that protects the lungs. Depending on what your genetic results are , it will show how much and what type of deficiency you carry.
