Do you know what your fev1 is now because a nurse told me it depends on your fev1 at the time when I asked about COPD an if ever I needed an operation under general anaesthetic take care xxx

I had my left knee done (TKR). Had spinal block. Everything went fine. Do the exercises before and after surgery to get the max benefit. I had a lot of pain, which wasn't managed properly, but others I know (including my sister) had minimum pain. It was still worth having the op as I couldn't sleep beforehand due to the pain. Op was approx 18 months ago. All good now. Best of luck with yours x

I didn’t accept the op I cancelled it I was told that because it’s a high risk operation that I COULD die with 2 months of having the op, not I will, I COULD, but it wasn’t a nice thing to say when it’s time for me to walk to theatre. What’s your opinion.

I have a similar problem and so far have been refused an operation for kidney cancer because of my COPD. The breathing problems I can cope with, I just adjust my life to suit how I feel but the thought of being left in pain and a slow lingering demise worries me a lot.

I’m sorry to hear that, I hadn’t been refused the op, it was he said when I was about to walk to theatre that because it’s a high risk operation I COULD DIE within 2 months afterwards, not a nice thing to be told, I refused to have the operation and went home.

Hi. I have half knee right and full knee left. I was diagnosed with copd about 10-12 years ago and knee ops maybe 5 and 7 years ago. I wasn't told anything about it being a higher risk of death and had GA with first of and they tried a spinal block with 2nd op but it didn't work so they reverted to GA anyway. I have never looked back since replacements they really made my life one whole lot better. I have since been diagnosed with obliterative Bronchiolitis but as still a lung desease cannot see that it would have made much of a difference?

Thank you for your reply Christine, much appreciated, I have an appointment with my GP ON THE 20th hopefully he will understand why I walked away, and he can sort this problem out for me, I don’t want to see this surgeon anymore I have no confidence in him, I’d rather put up with the pain, and if it gets too much then it’s up to me to decide what to do with my life.
