Remember family doctors?
Alas they are no more.
They used to see your parents,
And your grandparents before.
They knew your medical history,
From when you first were born.
And brought your kids into the world
When you began to spawn.
They didn't have the tools then
That doctors have today.
But you always felt much better
When they sent you on your way.
I'm sure we're all much healthier now,
With partnerships an' that,
But to those old family doctors,
I shall always raise my hat.

I remember our family doctor doing home visits . I can’t imagine that happening now . Still , our local team of respiratory nurses are lovely and happy to come out when you need them 😊

Those where the days. Too many "People" now to cover. I was one of eight, so Mum would plod of to the GP , to ask for home visit, no home phones then. The Dentist was another Story...Pushed there in a big ole Siver cross, 4 small kiddies in the pram and two on either side walking. Under The Gas & dreaming of a cartoon cat in a Flying saucer, My memory is not too Bad, I was about 4. Oh the pain of extraction. Worse to come as I got a bit older. Please Don, make me laugh more . Made me so nostalgic Don. We used to count the people already in the waiting room so we knew when it was our turn. When I was young I always tried to get on a big black chair, (all were different then ) which was stuffed with something very prickly, and I spent my waiting time surreptitiously pulling bits out. Yes, the doctor who saw me through my first pregnancy did the same for my mother when she was expecting me.
Hmmm.... I can remember some truly dire doctors from the old days. And some horrendous nurses. Interesting survey done recently: people were asked about their childhood years and almost universally people were saying how much better it was then. But on further questioning and reflection it seems that very few were actually wish to return to those days. Just written an article about it. Shall I post it here?

PS. Our doctors name was Doctor Shanks. I thought he had a pony.
Yes that brings back memories of our family dr when I was I child he treated everyone in the family from grandad down to us nippers. Xxx

My favourite doctor retired a few years ago. If I went to see him for a prescription for my eczema cream I would be in and out in a couple of minuets. Anything serious and out would come the body map followed by a full explanation of the symptoms and diagnosis. He was fantastic with one of my daughters when she had a marriage break up.
I just wish the doctors would still come out and see their patients . Ours is just up the road , but I don’t drive and trying to get my husband there when he is so poorly is a nightmare. Just someone to come and check on him would be so good , otherwise we as carers don’t know what Is normal and what isn’t . He had to fill in a form so I can speak to the doctor on his behalf .
I remember my family doctor, but not in such a good way. He diagnosed the pains I was having in my joints as growing pains. Forty years later I realise they were early signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis! I have been with my current dr for about twenty years, and try to only see him. He knows all about my health issues and is very good.
Ahhh Yes, we lived next door to ours. You just went in and sat in their front parlour waiting to see them. You always, got to see them too. Nowadays, there are 12 Docs at our practice n I seldom see the same one. We have made such Advances in Medicine but, I feel loosing our old Docs was a mistake. I find a visit to Docs intimidating, now, in a way, I never did, then. We never get to know them or them, us. Thanks for the he memories Don. 😊🌻✌️
