Last week I went for some lung test and a flight assessment test ,I couldn't believe how well I was doing also Oxygen levels 94/98,and them came the flight assessment, the nurse said I had to wait until my Oxygen levels dropped a little other wise I couldn't do the flight assessment, she said we shall still take it anyway ,my Oxygen levels were 96 but she told the nurse to write down 95,I personally didn't notice any difference all of a sudden she said my Oxygen levels had dropped and needed Oxygen I said I don't she said I had to have Oxygen , with that she said she will write to the lung specialist and tell him in future when I fly I shall have to have to have Oxygen,I told her when I flew to Switzerland in June I had no problems , with that she said I had no right to have flown ,I felt so depressed and down with this nurse ,I have to wait until September to see the lung specialist, It's really the only thing I look forward in life to visit friends and family , going with the Train is to much stress .
Normally I am so bad with the hot weather ( touch wood ) I haven't had any problems ,I think it's since my doctor gave me an Aero Chamber for my inhaler I can feel the difference.
Sorry to have gone on to much .
Blessings to you all .

Sorry about that Susan..I canβt fly anymore either, they seem to be getting stricter. I know what you mean about the train journey. I have taken the Eurostar, changed station in Paris then did Paris-Geneva a couple of times. Very tiring. Although I registered with SNCF AccΓ¨s Plus and it makes my life easier to have someone taking my suitcase and putting me on the train.
Maybe that is worth a try. Stopping over in Paris is just as tiring I think, you need at least 2 nights each way. It is better to get it over with and rest when you get home.
Thank you Fran for replying , I am sorry for you that you also can't fly again it's so frustrating ,I I have done the train journey, it's far to much stress for me ,as I usually travel alone ,I shall not give up .
Hope you can solve it my dear Susan. Your determination is an example to us.
Take good care of yourself xx

Hi Not many people know this but you can go to Lille on the Eurostar with only one change of platform, not station, if you have a friend in Europe get them to book the ticket for you, GB insists that route doesn't exist!!! and it will never come up. From here in France it is always booked that way so, much less stress and of course you don't get the stress and pollution of a big city, the risk to health on the metro or having to pay sometimes dishonest taxi drivers who try and take advantage of a foreigner and jack up the fare
Susan,it may well be worth investing in a little portable oxygen concentrator for your short flights, probably be able to pick up a good 2nd hand still under warranty model for around Β£1500 that way you can cover your o2 requirements and it could be of use to you whilst doing more strenuous stuff,re your flight assessment.forget the sats measurements the important part is the measurement of your capillary blood gases which would have confirmed your need for o2 at cabin pressure in an aircraft.i assume that these where done and you can ask for a copy of all the results obtained within the tests should you wish to challenge the results with your consultant.you have every right to fly and you can do so freely regardless of what the nurse said but i would advise gathering all the info available and making a safe judgement also be aware that any info on your medical records now including the recent test would be available to any insurer should you have a problem in the future.sorry this is so long winded but just want to reassure you that requiring oxygen, especially in your relatively mild state need not curtail your active international life....................best wishes Ski's and Scruffy xx
Thank you Ski's and Scruffy, for replying ,I wouldn't travel with oxygen ,I understand what your saying ,and I shall gather as much information as possible.
Thank you Stevennn2003 , for your reply,I did go on in June ,I took my oxymeter with me I checked my Oxygen levels on the flight and it was 94 so I thought ok , but the nurse wasn't happy when I told her ,I thought it's nothing to do with her.
I was told I will need a fit to fly but they will not guarantee that I can fly home and be okay, so they advised I do not fly at all! I can go from 95% to 88% with no rhyme or reason?
Hi Susan, so sorry you have been upset by this nurse. Sometimes I think nurses do not understand how upsetting it is to be told we need this that or the other when we know better than they do how we feel. She was just trying to justify her job. So sorry you will now have to wait until Sept to see your consultant (have you tried ringing his secretary?) I have done this in the past when something was worrying me and I needed a quick response from my consultant, I am sure he/she will not mind. Nobody wants you to be distressed longer than necessary. Good luck and take care. Maximonkey
Thank you Maximonkey, for your reply, I certainly know at this hospital the nurses look down on patients,I asked if I could speak to the specialist but unfortunately he is on holiday, she didn't say how long, , this specialist knows my last encounter at this hospital,so I certainly wasn't feeling at ease.
Hi Susan, I would still phone the consultants secretary, it is unlikely she will be off on holiday at the same time, hopefully she will take a note of your concerns and when the consultant returns he/she will get in touch. I do know many of the doctors take their holidays during July through to October. I hope you have success and the secretary helps you. If not promise yourself you are not going to dwell on this bad experience. Take care and keep in touch. Maximonkey
