I get the impression that my medial centre think the 70 % FEV1 cut off should be more like 65% cut off for people over 70 yrs one nurse mentioned this also maybe if you are an ex smoker I have been a social smoker for 50 yrs that’s about 20 cigs a week Christina 47

Can I also mention when I had the reversibility test my FEV1 went up to 71% does mean anything. Christina 47

Sorry the only figure they gave me was the FEV1 69 % and told me to build up my fitness levels and go back in 6 months Christina 47

Your Fev1 can improve if you're initial test is impaired with an infection & mucous. I suspect your test didn't show a consistent enough blow, which is why your nurse wants to give your condition a chance to stabilise/improve before another test.

Get some daily exercise, lose some weight if you need to, keep off the fags and see how well you do in the next test.

Were you already on any medication?

Best wishes.

Thanks u make me feel better on no meds just abo for the severe chest infection end jan that started it all off I think it was a chest inf that turned into a mental health issue. Its guilty consciences for being a life long smoker only a light smoker but the years catch up with u I will tried and get fit for my next test . How are u doing ? Christina 47

I had a productive cough from July 2012 until September 2017. All sorts of meds tried but cough remained. In August as a last resort my prophylactic antibiotic was changed and I stopped coughing five weeks later. Unfortunately it started again last week. On my lung consultant’s advice, I stopped the antibiotic in May, because ‘people don’t get chest infections in the summer!’
