Seretide going out of production?

I've recently been moved from seretide evohaler, which was great, to fostair, which I don't think to be so good. My GP tells me I can't go back to Seretide because the manufacturer is ceasing production. Is this correct and, if so, is there a better alternative?

If SO! GlaxoSmithKline don't know about it!

There are several areas which are advising GP's to change to reduce costs.

Thank you. I'll bear that in mind when I see the asthma nurse in three weeks

I do think Symbicort SMART is the best.

Not to my knowledge and I see some patients who are still on it. In my opinion (respiratory nurse prescriber) there are other medications that work better. I am thinking from your post that you prefer an mdi to a dry powder? If that is the case, has symbicort been suggested? An mdi has now been produced. It contains budesonide and formoterol. Formoterol is the long acting bronchodilator and starts to work about 25 mins earlier than salmeterol which is in seretide. it is licensed for both asthma and copd unlike seretide mdi which is only licensed for asthma. The seretide accuhaler is licensed for both.

I was taken off it when I was recovering from flu and took salbutamol from time to time. Apparently the change to fostair was to reduce my salbutamol, but I was on very little. Without the flu I rarely took my reliever. I use a spacer a d find that fostair seems thick compared to my previous medication, which was Seretide evohaler. Before that I was on Seretide in powder form and didn't seem to get the full dose.

I would say fostair and seretide are finer particles than symbicort, in which case, the latter may not be the right choice for you. Sirdupla is a fine particle- it's essentially same as seretide without the high cost. Like seretide, the MDI is not licensed for COPD but from your posts I am guessing that will not affect you.
