Symbicort vs Seretide for copd

I was on Symbicort, but because I was still having problems with breathing, consultant changed me over to Seretide.After several weeks my breathing became much worse, so much so, that after little exertion I was puffing and panting constantly. I am now back on Symbicort and all that gasping for breath has stopped! The Seretide had made my breathing worse than ever. Has anyone else had this adverse effect with Seretide?

Yes I had a problem with seri tide 500 big round one,it may have been the powder effect,I was allergic to,symbicort did have a better effect on me,now after being tested for how much I can breath in hospital doc. Is changing me to fo stair acuhalor .as soon as the surgery acknowledge the letter,may have to follow it up,anyway it's good to feel good !!

Thanks for that post - I will remember your words. My husband is on symbicort and doing fine but I will watch out for seretide. Glad that you are OK now - it must have been very worrying for you. Take care, TAD xx

I took Serevent once, which I think is the bronchodilator part of Seretide, and I felt as if I was being strangled....very frightening

I was changed from Symbicort to Seretide and it suits me better. My astma worsened whilst on Symbicort.

I guess Symbicort comes in different strengths like Seretide? I can get away with Seretide 125 in the height of the good summer but go up to 250 then 500 as the winter woes happen.

Yes I had probs with Seretide - and as it got worse the tw*t consultant kept increasing the dose until I ended up in a&e not able to breathe... It was me who realised Seretide was causing the problem rather than curing it, also gave me a hoarse sore throat and post nasal drip.

It works well for some, but just beware that if you feel worse stop it pronto.

Formoterol is good for me, doesn't have a steroid component, so alone wont control asthma. You'd need to take something like Clenil Modulate or other inhaled steroid, too. Both Seretide & Fostair have LABD + steroid components.

I believe Symbicort does have a steroid component.

Yes I know that Symbicort also has a steroid, the consultant discussed this with me. The problem was that seretide made my breathing worse. They both contain steroids.

I was actually talking to soulsaver that posted directly above my post and mentioning that Symbicort doesn't have a steroid component.

I've been on Symbicort since my hospital stay a bit over two years ago for pulmonary collapse and whatever breathing problems remain are slowly being dealt with via my own exercise and exertion which is gradually building up my stamina. I'm better now than I was six months ago and so on and so one ad infinitum back to when I was discharged.

I know there's SOME damage from my years of abuse through smoking and other 'devilment' but I also know that I've managed great improvement even from before my hospital stay simply by now realizing what's wrong and picking up hints here and there and on HU on how to correct/combat the problem.

I too have switched from Seretide to Symbicort as I found that the Seretide was making me breathless. Breathing did improve with the Symbicort. I only found out about Symbicort when I was in the hospital & another patient recommended it.

I have been on Seretide for two years without any problem,this has just been changed to Flutiform,not entirely sure why but this seems to be ok too.I seem to tolerate most meds quite well.I,ll probably regret saying that lol.Hope it works for you.D.

You're right sorry I should have checked - its Fomoterol that doesn't have a steroid component - that works for me. I've edited the prior post for safety. I take a very low dose of clenil 50um, one puff, once or twice a day.
