Stopping azithromycin
I meant to say it was kebsiella bacteria
Hello. I was told that whilst taking prophylactic Azithromycin and got an infection needing antibiotics then I'd have to cease the Azith whilst taking another antibiotic.....really though, you should be getting the say so from your GP. Can you give him/her a call? I'm sure the receptionist would relay a message. I can book phone consultations with my GP however, not all practises have the same systems. Get well soon. P
The pharmacist says stop taking azithromycin, my consultant says don't stop......who do you believe??? I carry on with azithromycin at the same time as taking amoxicillin . I have no side effects. It's take your pick lol. However I would say check with your Doc. 😀
You really need to check it out as it may depend on the type of ab you are prescribed. Azith is in the macrolide family and the amoxillin Annastatia was taking are in the penicillin family. Best people to ask, apart from your docs, would be the pharmacist to check for possible overdosing if it’s a macrolide and or an interaction.
Good luck.

I’m on azithromycin three times a week and if I get a chest infection I take amoxicillin. I was told to take it as well as the prophylactic abs by both my gp and my consultants do I do. The only side effects can be a slightly dodgy stomach and I’ve occasionally got thrush from antibiotics (both easily managed) but I think that is me rather than the combination as I got both of those side effects before taking the prophylactic abs when I took other abs.
I've just come out of Hospital and having to continue with Amoxiclav for another two days, I soon as I finish, I shall be back on Azithromycin which I have been taking for 3 years and has helped to deter any chest infections. instructions from my Consultant . xxx
