My bladder cancer has come back again and on Wednesday the 6th of this mth (June) I have to go and have another TURBT in which they have to put me to sleep but after just having another lung function test last week my results being now only 25% I am really scared has anyone else had surgery whilst only having 25% lung function?

Hi,

A friend of mine quite poorly with COPD had an operation on his prostrate, that they did by epidural. He said the surgeons were talking to him all the way through the op, he said he felt no pain except some pressure when they were scrapping his prostrate. He was out of hospital the following day and had no problems afterwards.

they were going to do a epidural but then decided not to because of how much and how fast it has grown.

Thank you for your reply I really need a success story to know it can turn out ok x

It would only present a problem if your op was on your lungs. It isn't, so you will be fine.

Hello copd1967, sorry to hear about your bladder cancer returning, but the aneasnatist will be made aware of what's right for you and will act accordingly with the surgeon, and it's got to be dealt with asap, so try to relax and put your faith in them, that's my advice. It's easy to give advice but I would practice what I preach. Take care of yourself and please let us know how you get on my friend? ✋️😉xx

My husband also has Bladder Cancer he also has copd and lung cancer. He has been told that any further Turbts needed will be done with a spinal block. He also has skin cancer and had to have his ear removed last year this was done under local as they would not give him a general. I am sure they will find a way for you good luck with the Turbt.

My hubby also has bladder cancer. He has had TURBT with spinal block and it went fine. If you have to go into the hospital for a pre-op appointment they should go all through the options with you. Even put hubby through all the bike tests as they were planning an RC. All the best. X

Hi-- I joined this site because I was an advocate for my mom, and always looking for information. My mom only had 20% lung function, and had several surgical procedures done. There is always an anesthesia risk, even in healthy patients. I think doctors look at the risk/benefit analysis, it is all weighted. I would not worry too much. Good luck.
