I had this approx 30 years ago and hated it. It was very expensive and I never felt warm. However, it may be better now (30 years later) but personally I would prefer any other type of heating. Good luck.

I have storage heaters, I've recently had a new modern one fitted. It's a lot better than the older ones, far better, but I still have to use an electric oil heater as well sometimes, in the winter. They're not the best form of heating, but there's no gas supply where I live. If you're wondering about any effect they may have on COPD, they don't have any effect on me.

Hi Radley, I have storage heaters and after living with gas central heating most of my life I find the storage heaters both economic (don't forget you will be on Economy 7 or 10 which are both cheaper during the night when the storage heaters use electricity) and they are very warm. As for my breathing there is no difference, I have asthma and bronchiectasis and have not felt that the air is too dry (this was suggested may be a problem before we moved) I use plants to put oxygen into the air in both the lounge and bedroom and find with open windows even just 1 inch of fresh air in some of the rooms is enough to keep the flat fresh and free from condensation which would be another problem for anyone with lung conditions. Good luck Maximonkey

Glad you asked that Radley48 because it's something I've wondered about myself in case I move in the future. Sheila x

I have night storage heating.

I used to have gas heated hot air, blown by electric fans. The dust in the air and the gas affected my daughter's health. She has asthma and eczema, the hot air system gave her really bad nose bleeds.

I had the gas removed from the house and night storage heating installed.

My whole family have been happy with the heating. Dire warnings from other people about high bills, being cold/too hot have all been wrong. My electric bill is about the same as neighbours, in identical houses, pay for gas and electricity combined.

My heaters are now 27 years old and still work well (I hope I didn't tempt the fates saying that).

Best of luck xx
