Coughing everyday: Who among you guys... - Lung Conditions C...
Coughing everyday
Could be asthma? I would go see a dr I think you need some investigation work. X-ray maybe and definitely some kind of breathing test, a lung function test (Spirometry)
Hi aeparcs, how long since your exacerbation? We don't recover quickly - often takes 6 - 8 weeks to fully recover.
If you are concerned then go back to your GP but remember, often they really don't know too much about it (simply too complex for them) so if you feel like you're being fobbed off then ask for a referral to a consultant.
Best wishes
Hi I can have extreme coughing for up to 8 weeks after a chest infection. It often affects me more than the infection. Ihad x rays as I kept coughing but my chest was clear. I did pester to go to the chest clinic as I was so bad It seems this is a bad side effect for me. Hope you are better soon
Ask you doctor for an appointment for a spirometry test as this gives facts and figures about your lungs that the nurse can deciphour.
first docs diagnosis for my chest complaint was a hiatus hernia.
Second doc sent me for x-ray as it had been advertised on TV that persistent cough could be cancer.
Third doc said infection and gave antibiotics.
Luckily I had a coughing fit on a Sunday and was sent to ‘out of hours doc’ at local hospital, chest x-ray, clear, tiny bit of wheezing, antibiotics did no good before.
This guy sent me for a spitometry test back at my docs, which I passed out at and had to return for another spirometry test and this time one of the Sisters from the local hospital carried out the test and indeed gave the prognosis of COPD .
So as much as I respect our local doctors I would recommend that you get a spirometry test booked.
It’s a specific test for lung condition.

I've had a cough for over 1 year now had all sorts of tests at hospital and xrays all good results in fact was told my lungs could belong to someone many years younger than me..perhaps they ain't mine.
Did that Spirometer test too again great result. Have had 4 courses of antibiotics one of which which double dosages. And I'm still coughing. Did sputum test which brought up 2 bugs Strepoccocus group b and Haemaphilia Influenza but not as in cold or flu.. hence the many courses of antibiotics all after each other. And i still cough..doc tried me on an inhaler no difference made..gave me peak flow test..sent for Barium Swallow Test again result good..still coughing.. seems going out into cold air really triggers it off also hearty laughing. Now next appointment at hospital is in June for Medical/Gastro was checked for acid reflux result nil but I knew that before it was done.
So yes I can relate well to an on going cough. First thing in morning i can bring a little bit of green phelm up but that's it so I think that's the culprit keeping me coughing ive told doc but doesn't seem to be picked up on.
Crazy for sure.
Mind you years ago I had a cough for a year and it just went if it's own accord but guess with age these things linger on more.
Lilmo 1 I was coughing for around 5 years before I got my diagnosis of bronchiestasis which was detected after a CT scan and spirometery test and a bout of chest infections. Maybe worth asking your consultant about it. 🐝
I thought it was " normal " to have a cough every day. I have coughing fits on a regular basis throughout the day and night but had assumed that this was just part and parcel of my condition ( copd/emphysema ).
