Hi,I have a persistent tickly dryish cough..I thought it was something I developed after Covid as I've had it for a year.i did get chest xray a few months ago which was clear.im on different meds which I read can cause a dry cough but my gp said its unlikely that this is the cause but hasn't taken it any further. This cough is non stop,so not much sleep.i would appreciate any advice, thankyou.

I would persevere with the GP to find the cause of your cough. Following Covid, I coughed for months, had chest x-rays and blood tests, all ok. A CT scan many months later revealed what they thought was an infection in my lungs and I was later diagnosed with bronchiectasis. In my case, this cough was accompanied by thick phlegm production, so not a dry cough as you have. The long covid team taught me breathing techniques which reset my breathing (which had been altered by covid) and this virtually stopped the daily coughing fits.
I had a persistent cough. I had an x ray which didn’t show anything so kept pursuing it with the GP. Finally I got a CT scan and was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis.
I have mild COPD and had a similar issue after a bout of Covid last year, after 6 months of coughing a FeNo test at my GP’s with follow up blood test showed severe inflammation in the lungs and a diagnosis of underlying Asthma, might be worth asking the question of your GP
I developed bronchiectasis like Seagullcity after a fungal lung infection and coughed non-stop. This could be another possibility perhaps?
Not very helpful comment from your gp. It could be your inhaler or one of your meds. Or you could have a problem that hasn't cleared up from your chest. I would go back to your gp and ask for a referral to a consultant that can help. In the meantime try a good tonic like Metatone it may help x
I was on rampril about 3 years ago and I got a cough bought anything and everything it got worse and worse cough was exhausting docter said wasn't my tablet s but pharmacy at boots said it was the rampril docter had ta change tablet and I was ok
hope you get it sorted. nobody should have to put up with an annoying cough.go back to your spare you under a chest specialist.
A productive cough is associated with bronchiectasis. Maybe get yourself referred to a respiratory team that has bronch specialists Take care. I have a productive cough and at times it is very violent. Do you have any post nasal drip? Jakemans throat and cough sweets help me xx
I agree with @watergazer’s comment about Jakemans cough sweets, particularly the dark brown ones.
