Has anyone attended a PIP appeal and if so can they tell me what you need to bring and what happens at the appeal?

Hi
Some reading for you.
try these benefitsandwork.co.uk/ its 20 quid to join but you can log in and read loads anyway
Thank you Sibkev. I was just wondering what it was like to appear in front of an appeal board. Is it very formal or quite a relaxed situation.
Hi I used to be a CAB worker and specialised in Disability tribunals. Please don’t be scarred. The tribunal panel are independent, they are not on the DWP’s side. They are there to listen to the facts of each case they are not going to try and catch you out. When you’re answering questions focus on how it is on your worst day and explain as best you can how difficult it is to live your life. Speak as if you were talking to us here on healthunlocked. The panel are not there to judge you but to understand. Try to have someone with you to support you. Hope this helps let us know how you get on. Best wishes Barbs x
Hi, I've been but for esa, it was a judge and doctor.
They were very nice explained everything and asked much the same questions as on forms.
They do seem to be very understanding and fair.
Hope this helps good luck.
Try and send anymore evidence about your disability from your doctor beforehand not on day. Even a recent discharge letter from hospital which you are allowed to get copy of from doctor along with any medical conditions. Try and have someone with you and take notes with you and paper. I had one few years ago and there was three people in front of desk quite intimidating and demeaning. They will have your copy of form you filled out try and get copy of this if possible to help you. They will tell you result that day you will go outside and then get decision. Good luck and remember it's your bad days and what you can't do and what aids or help you need to manage Agnes
Thank you Agnes. I'll do as you say.
They will ask how long took you to get ready to get there and how you travelled there where you get shopping and your ability in cooking and any help you need even if you need help and don't receive it it's still valid. Any aids you use how far you can walk and remember and mention pain etc. Agnes
Hello
If you'd like some advice about this from Biddy, BLF's wonderful and very friendly benefits advisor, please give our helpline a ring on 03000 030 555.
Best wishes,
Ben
Will do, Ben
They are very understanding barbs47 has got it right .Take a friend for support prepare your case carefully with lots of examples don't be afraid to emphasise difficulties always be polite and attentive . There is always the opportunity of getting your doctor to give written confirmation also a specialist and carer if necessary. There is loads of help from BLF. If you wear hearing aids tell them politely before the case starts. Good luck ,never give up.
