Hello sidebottom1 .

I think it varies from person to person depending on their condition. 😊

I take Allopurinol for Gout never had steroids for it. It's best to take the proper stuff, because it's extremely painful as you know. Can't afford to mess about.😣

If I could Have Allopurinol I would be quite happy, but because of Kidney function can't have any of the normal medications so keep looking for any other help for pain.Doc has just tried Febuxostat (similar to Allopurinol). but Kidneys rejected . Prednisolone is now an acknowledged pain relief medication for Gout, but practitioners are very wary about prescribing it.

I'm in the USA and have to pay for doctor visits and medications. I was happy to buy 100 20mg prednisone in Mexico, where it needs no prescription. For me, it gets your breathing back, clears your lungs then stop. It brings a feeling of well-being that after stopping is close to a depression.

Oh sorry to hear that Sidebottom 1, I had kidney probs last year to do with sediment from my meds could be that. Gout is terrible. Although probably caused by meds I always watch what I eat and drink. Good luck.

It varies from one patient to another but I have settled on 9 mg day for months. Depending on my state, if with an infection etc. I vary from 40 mg a day to the present 9 mg. But nothing stays he same and this may change for me again. At present I cope better o 9 but ts trial and error. Best of luck.
