I so depressed
Don’t ever think about giving up. Go to the doctor for help with the depression. Remember whatever he prescribes will be a partnership, you and the medication. Spring is right around the corner, daffodils crocus, snowdrops and swans, nothing of which we have in San Antonio but I remember the river in Bedford. We are always here to listen and try to help. Stay strong ☘️
You and me both Mate. But we both know that we won't, because although we feel bad now
there's every chance that some time in the near future we are going to feel absolutely great again.
Please don't ever think about giving up, go seek some help. Your life is worth so much more. We are all here for you, don't ever think you are on your own. Please get some help. And keep posting so we know you are ok. Love Bernadette 😳 xx 😊
Go to your doctor as soon as possible, and if you need to talk try the Samaritans, number in phone book or online, they are brilliant. I do hope you feel more able to cope very soon. Many blessings xx
Wonderful replies Gordy from others who care about you and each other. Don’t give up but please do as others suggest and contact your doctor or the Samaritans.
We are also here for you so feel free to talk if that will help a little.
Thinking of you. Xxxxx
From the replies you get you can see that there are people who have you in their thoughts, care about you and want to help. Don’t give up.
God Bless
Bill
Yes, don’t give up. These feelings dont last and each day is different. Try think positive and stay calm. Talk on here. Lots of nice friends who listen and understand. I wish you all the best. Take care.🙂
Sometimes it's easy to feel trapped and lost but there are people who really want to help. Please visit the GP as there may well be a support group near you who can help.
It'll get warmer soon and everything's better when there's some sunshine!

Hi Gordysmit, so sorry to hear you are feeling the way you do and sometimes words are not enough to pull you back together, but knowing you have so much support from all of us should make you think things through. We are all fighting your corner. ✋️😊
Do you mean that you need benefit advice?: try benefitsandwork.co.uk/ and respectfulbenefits.forumoti... . Please take care Gordy.
Morning Gordysmit. Please stop even thinking about giving up. Treat each setback as a challenge or a fight; some you win, some you lose- but don't give in. Also, you've so many friends on BLF, who offer so much good advice. I've lost count of the number of times I've started reading, feeling like you do, and then sorted myself out, even when they're not replies to me. The thoughts and feelings on here are not " person- specific " , if you like. It works for me and when you start to feel a bit better, I hope you can realise that it's not unbeatable, that you will feel like this again BUT you can overcome it. Apparently, this feeling is not uncommon with long- term conditions. Re. PIP and those, ( I was going to swear here.), at DWP, Atos etc, how you feel is how it's designed to make you feel. You MUST appeal. Please take care and I'm only a PM away, as are the others on here.
Sharing how you feel and why is already a step forward. You got good advice from our BLF friends..
We all have our ups and downs. You’ll get through this. We are here for you x
Hello Gordysmit. Some lovely words from members here, many of whom have had similar feelings. Do please call the BLF helpline on Monday from 9am. They have both benefits advisors and counsellors for you to talk to for advice & guidance. Please do make the call - 03000 030555 you've nothing to lose and much to gain.
Hi Gordysmit, depression/anxiety is a nasty monster, I have also suffered, and lung problems dont help it. However there are meds out there to help you(really help), you are not alone, a third of the population suffers from this. Go to see a good psychologist or psychistrist, they can help you, you are not weak you have just been strong for too long. Take care
Tomorrow is another day, hang on in there! BIG hug xx
Fight the fight its so worth it you'll see
Hang on in there, Gordysmit. Though you can't see them now, there are lots of things you can be thankful for. All of us rooting for you is one of them. Keep in touch.
I have to take medication for Depression and Anxiety esp during the winter months. Please talk to your Dr and get the extra help you need
No idea if you have religion, beliefs or not. Im just about to set off to walk to Church. I will remember you in my prayers. In fact ill remember all of you kind and lovely people who help each other so much.
Gordysmit, There are times when it's hard to see any good things and the feeling of wanting to give up takes over. However, as others here have said please don't give up. Get advice about PIP. You may find another claim will be treated differently. Going to your doctor is a really good idea. 1 for help with depression 2 To get his help re your PIP claim. Is there a Breathe Easy group you can get to? If there is everyone there will be very supportive. Keep us posted as to how you are getting on xx
Wheezyof
Please don't give up. Those pip people have a lot to answer for. Keep fighting and we are all behind you pushing you forward x
Gordysmit....I work for Citizens Advice and they are abs brilliant at challenging (and overturning) PIP decisions...please ring your local office and make an appt - you need someone fighting your corner and they will do just that. Lots of luck. I have bronchiectasis and can't seem to get infection-free at the mo so know how debilitating and depressing it can all be. Reading the replies today has made me realise I need to think positively and not get too down - not easy when you're on your own with it. But look! - the sun's just started to pour thru my lounge window...every little helps!! Take care.
Jane
Getting stressed thinking
Don’t get stressed Gordysmit , get proactive. Take up the suggestion of Andaluciagirl and get some advice and support from citizens advice and/or the social work department. Let someone guide you because it’s possible that you might not have given pip all the necessary information to make an informed decision.
It is important that you list the effects of your symptoms rather than a list of illness. For example, you have just mentioned that your mobility is significantly reduced at 100 metres due to breathlessness, this is the kind of information PIP are looking for.
I know that you are demotivated at the moment, incidentally; demotivation is also an effect of your multiple pathology’s, get some help to appeal and get in touch with your heart failure nurse and explain how you are feeling. Hopefully, he/she can get you multidisciplinary care to see you through these dark days.
Thinking of you

Think we have ALL felt the same at certain times in our lives Gordy. We feel it's a constant battle when we have bad health. Hang on in there my friend, life is full off ups and downs and this will pass. As the others have said get to your doctor, phone Samaritans.
What I try and do is think of all the poor homeless people and that I'm grateful I have a roof over my head. I know it's so difficult , try and watch funny movies to lift your mood.
I've felt like u many times but have been so glad I havn't done anything stupid when I start to feel better again.
Winter months are really difficult but spring is around the corner my friend.
U take care 😘
Oh....do you have a specialist who could write a letter explaining your condition and appeal to pip. It is absolutely terrible the way they are treating people. Yeah, appeal, get as much help as possible through citizens advice, BLF Helpline, letters from medical professionals who you see.
Good luck my friend.
Btw....do you know if you are living with a long term illness you are entitled to a payment helping you with your heating.
I just found out about this and gave them a call. Lady was lovely who dealt with it. It's a £140 payment which will be a great help to us who are ill and at home all day esp in the weather we have had this last week .
Good luck xxx
Good morning Gordy, I'm so sorry you are feeling so down. We all understand what a blow it is to be turned down for the financial support you need.
You can appeal against the decision to refuse you PIP. Most appeals are successful but you need good advice on how to phrase your appeal. Please call the BLF Helpline tomorrow (03000 030 555) and ask to speak to Biddy who is the benefits advisor. I'm sure she will be able to help. See her message here: healthunlocked.com/blf/post........ Her post includes her working hours. If she is busy when you ring you can ask for a call back.
Another good suggestion is to speak to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau. You have many options so please don't give up the fight to get what you deserve.
There's lots of knowledgeable support here and many friends rooting for you. Do keep letting us know how you are getting on.
Good Luck, Annie
I'm so sorry to hear your having rough time I'm also having a rough time with my condition So understand that you want to give up but you can't
I certainly want to give up too
I have brittle asthma and have had so many issues over the winter I was admitted to hospital on Friday and was discharged yesterday afternoon and two weeks before that I had was in hospital with the same problem asthma and I was also in A&E on Boxing Day night too due to asthma and things are coming to a halt due to asthma
My mum got me tickets to see crufts that got cancelled due to it being too risky and I'm a 17 year old college student who with the asthma attack two weeks ago meant an assignment was handed in late cos I was in hospital
My asthma is controlling my life and I'm already under a specialist been under specialists for a year and it's not getting better it's getting worse
I've had enough too
But we have to keep going and do everything we can to try and help our lungs even if it's not helping keep going with whatever you've got to do to try and keep our lungs stable x
So sorry it's not much help (I needed to rant) sorry
Hope someone else is able to help you
Been there -- several times. It comes and goes. Happy pills take off the edge, doing all the "right stuff" (exercise, eating properly etc) help too. Hang in there: life is better than the alternative.
Catnip
I was like you two years ago Gordysmit any but you ad I was close to suicidal but with the help from Farliegh Nurses I got out of it and now I'm so glad I never done anything stupid. Chin up and look on the Bright side. I know it's easy to say but you
CAN DO IT. I wish you all the best.
Yes but it’s knocked me for 6 and don’t even feel like eating
My wife gets care allowance for me and I get ESA
now pip stoped
How can I get Esa to for her
As her money has stoped too as my wife was my carer
Need tomorrow come then I can get a to see CAB is open
Hi Gordy. It all sounds really frustrating for you and so damn unfair. Not surprising that you're so depressed. Hope the CAB help sort it out PIP properly for you and the doctor gets you on to anti-depressants asap. Serious depression is very common after a COPD diagnosis. Hope things begin to look a little brighter, day by day. Lots of love, Mx
And warfarin avasting
Lipanopil blood pressure and imoprazall
Acid reflux pills and all the Medications I am on too
Atos did not put none of that down
Don't give up Gordy. The weather is against us at the moment. I am playing daft games on the iPad, reading lots of books watching telly and phoning friends. Spring is not too far away so take heart and look forward. See your GP if really depressed
You just wrote my winter life! I play Scrabble on Facebook, read detective stories and watch TV. Phoning friends is good but only if I've been sitting down for a bit. If I make a call too soon after any activity I just sound like a pervy heavy breather! Like you I'm looking forward to better weather.
Hi Gordy sorry you are depressed but pleased in a way that you have good reason to be, viz. your financial situation regarding benefits (or lack of), this is good because it is something you can thus try and rectify. While you are waiting for CAB to open may I recommend a site called Benefits and Work which gives good information (you do not have to join to receive their informative emails) but can join for more detailed advice - possibly re appealing decisions etc. You and your wife obviously have to fight the DWP's latest decisions and appeal and most appeals I believe are successful so worth doing. I know that does not help short term financially but gives you something to fight for and as well as CAB I would also recommend asking your local MP to get involved the more MP's get hassled by their constituents regarding the disgraceful actions of the DWP the more they might be inclined to take the department and government to task. Meanwhile good luck sorry you have to go through this xxx
Hi Gordysmit. You have my sympathy. Please don't give up. I know its not easy but there are some clinical trials out there that could give you hope such as stem cell research. Some naysayers don't accept the research but if it really was ineffective why is there a number of stem cell trials.? Look at research being done in China-the results look promising. Hope you feel brighter soon.
Go online to The Big White Wall - it’s a brilliant place for anyone with mental health concerns x. I’ve used it and found it very helpful. Wishing you well xx
Definitely see CAB. Also it is really important to document from your doctor all the drugs you are on and what your health is like. You can appeal against benefits decisions but you do need the documents to back it up.
I feel pretty fed up and stuck sometimes in this new COPD world I’ve found myself in. But spring is only around the corner and the summer will be better.
I also think your antidepressant drugs may be wrong- see your doctor again and tell him/her .
I hope things pick up for you.
Hope you get to the CAB tomorrow with your wife for some much needed help. When I get down I have an imaginary box I put all my worries in before getting in bed when I hope a good sleep will make me stronger to deal with things that have been bothering me, and take one day at a time. Luckily I don't suffer the deep depression you are going through right now and hope you can start feeling a little better soon .
Gordy , believe it or not we all who have this bloody awful desiese feel down ! Ride the waves ,it's the people around us who we love and they us that would miss us , I got help the other day from the lady in the shop that reduced me to tears she was sweet to me ( I'm on oxygen now ! ( two years ago I dident have this) try try , we never know if a help cure is on its way !
I don't write very often ( I only have my phone ) and and am dyslexic !!
But your words touch me !
Hang on in there !!
Is soo love of we could all meet from this site at some venue especially for us guys , wouldent that be a laugh ! , I think all the people on this are soo inspiring and soo brave xx
I am dyslexic too
Dear Gordysmit
You can both communicate what you want to say and write. We can both read you and understand you.
Now if it is a problem to fill in forms and write official letters, like a letter of appeal, you need to have that done professionally, by the CAB or you also have lawyers associations with members working pro bono helping the public.
I am saying that because we are dealing with people who are unfortunately trained to be judgemental so they can cut back on allowances etc according to government policy.
Fighting a chronic disease as well fighting the system is very hard, nobody should have to suffer both.
So tomorrow Monday you will need to make a to do list:
Phone the BLF PIP lady so she helps you out
As well as the CAB if there is one in your area
Make a doctor’s appointment to discuss treatment and say you are not feeling any better on those tablets or the dosage. I know they put my Bea on those tablets after her shingles, first they took a long time to work then they did a blood test to see if it was in her system and if it was the right dosage. Well it was not doing anything at all so now she is on a different one called Agomelatine and she is doing better on it.
Good luck with everything and keep in touch x
Fran
Anger seems often to be necessary in the fight against bureaucracy, Gordysmit...I'm not suggesting excessive aggression or rudeness, but let your frustration show and stand your ground. Good luck and don't let the b*****s get you down.
Sorry it took so long to reply my internet was out. Why don't you say a bit about what is bringing on the hopelessness? There is much you can do. I have been on a low dose of zoloft for 25 years and it keeps me from too extreme a depression. I have felt hopeless when the meds did not work. Do check out Buteykoclinic, com. A form of shallow breathing and breath control has helped me a lot . Please stay in touch .
