Im 65 years old belong to Pakistan living in France. In January 2014 I was hospitalized due to severe cough, watery nose running and phlegam in throat problem. I was treated with antibiotic tablets but disease continue till to date. All medical reports n X-rays are cleared. Different opinions of doctors, its asthma, bronchitis etc. Since January 2014 I have been living in a basement where there is no exhaust air system.

I visited Pakistan twice and stayed there 3-4 months every time. I walked there whole the day for my official works but there was no medical problem. .. My nose was dried and Used to put my wet finger in it.. Even here in Paris If I go in the air my respiratory system is fine, no cough, no sneezing, no phlegm.

When arrived in Paris again suffered with this at the airport.. Now using anti allergy and asthma tablets..very rare the Inhaler. Cough starts due to irritation in throat after that nose running etc starts. During night when I change my body there is serious dried cough...Phlegm colour is white..Sometimes I use anti-irritation syrup of my son and I feel my self best.

Recently doctors suggested Diphtheria injection.

What kind of disease I have been infected. Could you please advise me what I should do.?

Hi oh dear this sounds very nasty. I am afraid we cannot give medical opinions on here as there are no doctor etc. just fellow sufferers. Even if there were you couldn't be diagnosed over the internet. Have you had a CT scan? This should pick up anything which could be wrong.

Also you are living in the worst environment for respiratory problems and I presume you mean there is no air conditioning. If not it must be damp and maybe mouldy too. If possible I would move asap.

I hope you find some answers. x

Hypercat you took the words right out of my mouth. It seems to me that as the condition only occurs in the apartment then it must be the apartment that has something in it. Again I am not a doctor and I really think you need to go back and back until something is found - but move to a new apartment As Soon As Possible.

I would agree with what the others have said.I think you need to find another place to live.

I've got a bits of mold in places in my flat, I try my best to keep it clean..it not cluttered one bit, as can't bear clutter.

But I come down with around 3 serious chest infection each time a year.

Am also looking into moving to a ground floor accommodation, as have mobility problems. .

Wishing you all the best, also if you smoke this will make it worse..

Big hugs Bashxx

From the states; Might have a 'sick house' myself; old farm house bought in '79, never had an issue till I retired in 2003. Now I've been diagnosed with acid reflux, sleep apnea, COPD; I think they're all nutzzo's! Just picking a disease, giving a script and kicking me out the door....NEXT!!! Everything started in July of '84 on the way to a party less than 4 Months after retiring, sing to the radio; CRACK; voice just quit. By the time I got to an ENT it was better, but still really raspy. Results were Proton Pump Pills and Flonase for reflux. Then it was the Pulmonologist, he agreed with the reflux, he tacked-on sleep apnea; I thought it was odd that I couldn't breath right in daylight either. Did the allergy Doc; same thing about reflux, but she added a nasal irrigator. She said I didn't react to anything, but after arriving home two hours later I noticed 2 lumps for strains of mold.... The irrigator actually seemed to help for the first time, Ah! HA!; were getting somewhere. Only problem, the saline made my sinuses really burn and painful between twice weekly uses. Then I noticed something odd; my condition seemed to improver every year during the Spring and Fall. Bingo.... I think it's my air handler (Furnace/Central Air); runs less at that time of year and windows are open on some days. Before I retired, I worked 12 to 16 hours a day "8-days a week", to borrow a song title, thus I was seldom at home. After retirement, I'm here 24 hours a day. When I mention this to my Docs, they all just get that blank look. (deer in the headlights) I've seen News Stories about 'sick houses', but they never say who to call for determining and remediation. I'm old and can't afford to move; probably end-up in another polluted dump anyway. Had the duct-work vacuumed, but I can't say they got it cleaned. They were supposed to take before & after Pic's, but somehow the $600 bucks didn't get that done. It's always something...

Hi,

You mentioned that doctors have given you various diagnosis, what treatment if any did they suggest?

In my opinion you need to go back to the doctors to get a few illnesses ruled out before focusing on what the main complaint is.

Hi I have been using two medicines... INORIAL AND MONTELUKAST...

These medications indicate that your doctor thinks that your Asthma is allergic.

If your accommodation is not optimal, then this can also exacerbate your condition. However, one of the side effects of Montelukast is worsening of asthma symptoms . I suggest you go back to your GP and explain your symptoms again
