I wonder if anyone can tell me how long it normally takes to recover from pneumonia, i realise there will be no one size fits all.
I left hospital 3 and a half weeks ago after spending 4 weeks in there for a bad bout of pneumonia, plus they found mrsa in my lungs after the origina infection was cleared. Am i expecting too much thinking i should be mord able than i actually am at this point.?
Well everyone is different but what I can tell you is my sister-in-law contracted pneumonia last July, was hospitalized for two weeks, then was told by the hospital consultant that it would take a good six months for complete recovery and she had to have complete rest when she got home. It took several weeks for her to get going again and she would still get quite breathless after about five weeks or so and then this gradually diminished. By Xmas she was getting back to normal. Of course there different types of pneumonia so it might be a good idea to get some advice or information on this as to the effects on you, from your practice. I would have thought having a smidgen of MRSA as well wouldn't have helped and perhaps more of a delay in your recovery. Best wishes for a return to good health!

Sounds about right!! Just had a thought - why don't you try ringing the help line on here, they might have some good advice for you on what to do and not to do, to help to get better
Hi and Welcome. We are all different. Following my pneumonia which like yours included a stay in hospital It did take me about 6 months before I felt anywhere near my normal self. In your case my opinion would be that it is still early days. Recovering will take time so do not push yourself not feel guilty that you are still struggling.

Hello there simplesprout, and a very warm welcome to our forum. Your amongst warm, friendly people on here that will offer you advice and won't judge you as we all have our problems so you can ask about anything that maybe worrying you. I have suffered with Pheumonia And after returning home it took a few weeks to recover as I was very ill and a nurse was coming in every day. My advice to you is take it easy and rest with it, try not to push yourself to quickly. Nice to talk with you ✋️😊

Thankyou simplesprout, that's a nice thing to say, we all need help in one way or another and I've had plenty of help from others on here, it's good to know your not alone. I hope you start to feel better soon, as I say it takes its own time so just get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. ✋️😊

Welcome to the forum. I'm so glad you found us. What a time you've had. I have a friend who also has MRSA and he's constantly fatigued. I'm sorry you still aren't feeling so great, but I think it's totally understandable.
I believe our bodies let us know quite effectively when is ready to regain some normalcy. You've been through an awful lot. Just take it day by day, a little at a time. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself plenty of time to heal. 🌷🌸🍀

Im so glad you responded, as i had read a couple of your posts and noticed you mentioned a transplant. I too have been referred for a transplant ( double lung ) and find the whole situation a bit daunting. Your outlook and positivity regarding your situation is just great.

Iv been to see the transplant team, they sent me to have a full heart screening and my heart valves checked which has now been done. My consultant now wants me to go back and sed the team again. X

hi I think it depends on your condition . It took me about 3 months but I do have mild bronchiectasis
Good day and welcome to the site as many have before me, this is a warm and welcoming place. Open to helping in all ways. My recovery took me about 3-4 months but was also complicated by a massive seizure episode. MRSA will further drag you down my dog has this terrible disease. Finally after a 10 month battle were we thought we were going to lose him we have our boy back in fighting order. Much work thought and another story. He was dead beat exhausted, slept non stop and for a Chesapeake Bay Ret. 6yrs. out of nature. You are fighting a double battle do not be hard on yourself for recovery. Rest often, read, be lazy, drink tea and warm soups. Sit by the window in the sun. Venture out if nice, has been nasty. Give yourself time to heal. Will be thinking of you and holding you up.
Thanks so much for your reply, with regards to the mrsa, i was screened earlier in the year prior to a minor proceedure and was told i was clear, then when i was admitted for the pneumonia i was giving sputum samples every 5 days and it was only on my 3rd week and about the 5th sample that a doctor got a bit excited, told me mrsa had show up in my sputum sample, moved me to an isolation room and prescribed antibiotics called linezolid. Must admit, the antibiotics seemed to act within a few hours and i could feel a massive difference in my left lung. However because of the flu outbreak, i was sent home 3 days later with still 11 days of antibiotics to take and have no idea if im clear of the mrsa or how it ended up in my lungs. Waiting for follow up with my consultant to try and find out answers.
