I know this might be a silly question, but dose anyone who suffers this illness has lost a lot of weight and in the rear end? As some of you already know I am wheelchair bound so I sit all the time which was fine when I had some meat there but now it is so painful, I just wandered if there was something I could do. Sounds funny but a few months ago I asked my g.p about inplants and he said it can't be done. I have all the right cushions but even they are not solving the problem. I have other health problems like very severe emphaseama and I wandered if it was linked with osteoporosis and causing the weight loss in the rear end more severely than anywhere else. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and I've heard the one about being a pain in the rear lol. Thanks π

SEVERE OSTEOPOROSIS, SITTING ON BONES
You have my sympathy, I'm getting a bit too lean in the rear end to be comfortable too. Not to same extent as you though as cushions still provide some comfort. My feet could definitely do with some implants though.
Thanks Magpuss, I was hesitant about putting my news up but then I thought I can't be the only one suffering this painful problem. My husband puts cream on my rear end every day to help protect against bed sores. The nurse checks me as well. I mentioned it to her and she just said sit on a comfy cushion. I wander if I could have fat put into the rear end. Thankyou for listening Magpuss π
My chiropodist knew of someone who'd had implants in her feet, she'd been one of her clients for a short period before having the implants. She had no follow up information though as the lady had moved to Spain shortly afterwards. I was hoping to find out if it had been successful. If they can use implants on backsides for cosmetic purposes why on earth can't they use them for comfort and quality of life? They would make such a difference.
You are so right Magpuss, I wish you luck in your search for implants. Yes I agree about help for cosmetic purposes but when it comes to comfort, you can't get the help. It's like try this try that. What I do is keep moving around in my chair to relieve the pressure. Still maybe one day there might be a solution., for you and for me. I hope you are keeping yourself well Magpuss, βοΈπ
I'm not actually looking for inplants, maybe if I was younger but not now. I was just 'wondering out loud' when my chiropodist told me about her client. I hope you find a comfortable solution to your problem. I suppose you've already tried memory foam, goose down and such like.
I have a similar problem when I go out and have to sit on those hard wooden chairs. If there are no cushions I roll my coat up and sit on it. Iβve never been well endowed in that department π but have lost weight due to my bronchiectasis, and although Iβm lucky to be active Iβm underweight with thin arms and legs too. I wish there was a simple answer for you. Best wishes.
Snap, I've always been slim and when I was young I would fill my back pockets with paper towel to make it look like I had a good shape bottom. That was fine until I needed to blow my nose and my frame started to go flat lol. It's good to know there are people the same as me, and I can appreciate where your coming from sandy. Thankyou for your support. Take care and I hope all is well with you? π
I know that there are boosters rather like for boobs that can be put inside your pants that can help rather than have an 'implant'. My brother a paraplegic used them. He found them on gay websites - this may be a real possibility. I too am stick thin and on all the supplement stuff - lord knows which of the problems it's related to !!! Good luck with finding a solution
I weigh 82 pounds and i use cushions all the time I Have to the pain is unreal
Hello Sjf129903, your weight is very low and I know exactly how you feel. I hope you are getting all the help you need? Take care of yourself βοΈπ
My weight is about the same - it's a devil isn't it? Nowhere to go when you're ill - keep trying with my supplements though. But it's hard.
It certainly is a problem sak50 and no mistake. The supplements are a good thing though, keep going on them. I eat loads of veg, fruit and all the stuff that's good for you and I'm still bonie, but when I look back I was always the skinny kid at school, so maybe it's hereditary, not certain though. I hope you are keeping well? Keep warm, especially with this awful cold spell. βοΈπ
I'm the smallest boned in my family as well they even put me on the marijuana pill so I'd eat but it only made me sleep I already do enough of that i been trying to eat alot of carbohydrate bread biscuits stuff like thqt but its nit working but i haven't lost any more weight
Hello Sjf129903, yes I know how you feel, mind you I have never heard of marijuana pills, not sure I would try it, being wheelchair bound I would hate to be tripping everywhere lol, my sense of direction is bad enough as it is. Thanks for getting back to me . I hope you are keeping well? Stay warm. βοΈπ
I lost alot of weight and it appears to be in the rear end went to the beach and could hardly stand it sat on pillows on the way back. I don't see why they couldn't do implants they do them every where else lol.
I'm sitting on a medi pap cushion by greatideas.co.uk it works for me.
There are a number of issues here. Obviously changing position can prevent this but in your case being in a wheelchair this is not possible. There are new products coming on the market all the time could your GP refer you to the community physiotherapy/occupational therapy team for advice.
Hello Badbessie, yes being wheelchair bound doesn't give my rear end a rest. I have had various cushion's but not really a help because after a while they go flat. I have got a ROHO cushion, and you have to inflate every so often but even that is not helping because my bones really hurt. Thankyou for your help. Hope you are well? π
When I left hospital severely underweight and with a bedsore, the district nurse brought me a cushion. Cushion ! It was more like a block of concrete ! Finally my son took a thick piece of foam and cut a hole in it- magic. I think you should try a memory foam ring from the site chopsticks recommended. Sheila x
Thankyou mskpjb, sounds like a plan, talking with husband and agreed it sounds good. I know what you mean about cushion comfort or should I say uncomfortable. I hope you are keeping well? βοΈπ
I'm no too bad at the moment Stumpy. Just over a chest infection that's left me with a nuisance cough. I'm just really tired more than anything - aren't we all ! Hope you get sorted out cushion wise. Take care, Sheila xx
Hi Stumpy55
OMG! I know exactly what you mean. I thought I was the only one with this strange problem. I dropped quite rapidly from 9st to 7st 5 (sorry donβt know the equivalent in kg) and also have very thin wrinkly arms. I not only have no backside but also no boobs so am a very sorry sight for sore eyes. I also have great pain even when sitting on cushions - feels like I am balancing on 2 metal bars! The worst of all is trying to sit in the bath- so painful. I also have a spare quilt under my bottom sheet to try to make the bed less painful but my ribs and bottom bones still hurt. I will be interested to hear if you come up with a solution. Iβm trying to eat my way to having some sort of bottom but nothing seems to be working. Just another little side effect of cops I suppose. I have bronchitis obliterans and am on oxygen for 16 hours a day plus exercise.
I use a spare quilt over my mattress too as my hip bones hurt when I lie down, and I have to take a cushion with me when I go out . Have you tried sitting on a folded towel in the bath . My arms and legs are skinny too but not my stomach....such joy . A friend recommended that I put cream in my home made soup to try and gain weight....I will give it a try.
Hi there Jackietickle, seems like we have a lot in common and I know exactly how you are suffering too. Everything you have said I can relate to. The worse thing for me is my rear end and because I sit on it 24/7 nothing I have benefits me nowadays. My husband brought me a rubber ring to try out even that was uncomfortable after a while. I will keep you informed, I wish you well also, so stay Intouch please . βοΈπ
Hello knitter, well no I haven't tried a folded towel in bath as I have a wet room with shower and my husband showers me every day. But I use a ROHO cushion and it use to be comfortable, but no cushion is comfortable now as my bones are so painful and you understand same as everyone else that I have spoken with. That sounds a good idea with your home made soup made with cream. I hope it works for you. Thankyou Knitter for taking the time. Hope other than problems with your bones, you are keeping well. βοΈπ
Thank you Stumpy.
I have ordered a cushion from the site that someone recommended in one of your replies but I donβt hold out too much hope. I will let you know.
At least I am lucky enough to be able to stand up and walk (slowly) about when it gets too uncomfortable. This inspirational forum has made me realise that I should be grateful for what I can do, rather than what I canβt. Everyone is just so positive and supportive - thank you all.
Take care Stumpy - stay warm!
Thankyou for that Jackietickle, I hope you get on well with your new cushion π€let me know how you get on? Yes I know what you mean Jackie, and also it's good to know there are people that we can turn to for support. I know my husband supports me bless him but he worries and when I see him worrying I pretend to feel better just to see him buck up and relax. But here I feel I can be myself and share my problems with like minded people. Good to talk with you . βοΈπ
I had to use a pile cushion after I gave birth 4 obvious reasons.i found they were really a god send.ive heard from a good source the red cross lend them out but you could buy one they took away the pain. just an idea.x
Oh really, that's worth knowing, thanks for that reiver. Hope you are keeping well. βοΈπ
stumpy please don't go out while we are going through this cold spell,as my twin with reynaulds its not worth it and obviously all of us in this community because its not worth risking our damaged lungs.yes me and my dog are nice and cozy I am going bed in a minute I,m tired.something nice and soft below your bones it does not need to be expensive I find helpsxxtake care.
Aww what a thoughtful and kind person you are, Thankyou very much. Well I'm very lucky that my husband loves shopping and the only thing that I have to go out for is a hospital appointment and luckily not next week. I'm going to get some foam now . Take care of yourself and keep warm π
Hi Stumpy55, our bottoms go flat and lose muscle either with age or from lack of use, in my case its both ha! Was thinking , can you lie on your tummy? If so perhaps you could do some gentle exercises by pulling your leg back towards your bottom, or lie on your side and move your leg up towards your chin, it may help the muscles, it would also give your booty a rest from sitting on it, or put your legs out straight and clench your muscles, the more you do the firmer it will feel, it also helps the blood flow. Not sure if you can do any of these, perhaps somebody could help you. Or look at memory foam, seems to be a bit softer. Hope you find some relief. Irene x
Hello Izb1, you could be right there, never thought of a flat bottom being age related before, also I do sit on it all the time so I say yes to both lol. I don't lay down at all because I can't breathe properly dew to Emphaseama so I sit up to sleep. Also having Osteoporosis in both my hips makes it extremely painful to exercise. Mind you the memory foam sounds like a plan. Thanks a lot Irene, I do appreciate all your help and advice. I hope you are keeping yourself well? βοΈπ
I like the idea of memory foam.glad your husband looks after you.my son looks after me.nitex
Hello reiver, yes I have a one in a million husband, thank god he is a blessing. I'm glad you are being looked after by your Son bless him. We are both lucky aren't we. Hope you are keeping well and warm? βοΈπ
Stumpy, my I to have the same problem no bottom side and so painful sitting. Blessing I can still still walk around when it gets to painful. Have have a wonderful husband by your side, what a dear man. Have you tried going to a pool it relieves so much pressure on the joints. They even have some rehab. classes not sure where you are but you could find a pool and look into. My mom was wheel cahair bond and love this activity !) she sent hour at the pool while I practiced for teams. Now in my later life I find it so relaxing just floating and moving my lags and arms, come out so refreshed. Sure changing is difficult so dress warmly to go home have hubby warm the car before leaving and picking you up. Doing this twice a week could lift your spirits and bottoms up! My weight is a real issue I eat many meals a day, try some protien shakes or the drug stores carry high calorie drinks designed to gain weight. Pot's and pasta is good along with rice. Gravy and some someone suggest cream in soups excellent. I wish you well.
Hello cherv, yes your right there, I have no choice but to sit on my painful bottom, however, talking to my husband I'm going to get a piece of memory foam for my arm chair. Plus social services have been Intouch and inform me that my electric wheelchair is due to be changed as I've had it three years now, they change them every three years, so I've had a few over the past twenty years. When I go there I will ask about something that will help,π€ it will. I've never gone swimming and to be honest with you as I only have one leg, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. Thankyou so much for your help and advice though much appreciated. I hope you are keeping well and warm during this cold spell. βοΈπ
Stumpy, my mom only had one leg! They have shallow ends of the pool and if you go to therapy they have therapy pools that lift you in and out. Things have come a long way since she died. I hope the new chair works, have you looked at a scooter she had one and loved it so very much could move from the it to the elevated toilet, or couch without help. She raced around in it also like a youngster and gave her grand kids rides on it! Wishing you well!
Oh did she, well on the other hand I could give it a go I suppose, not really keen on the idea though so for now I will think about giving it a go lol. Thankyou for trying to help me. No I haven't looked at a scooter because I have an electric wheelchair which is brilliant. My grand kids when little use to stand on the back for a ride and the youngest being five at the time referred to my chair as nanny in her wheel barrow lol. Thanks a lot Sheri πΉ
Mum is very small too, with similar problems in the rear department!
I'm guessing you have a repose, air cushion cushion already? She finds hers pretty good and very portable.
Having attended a few lectures on pressure areas and sores, one of the best bits of advice I can give is to try keep on top of your nutrition. If you do get any sore areas, poor diets and lack of calories can have a significant effect on the breakdown of the skin.
Many hospitals have been rapped on the knuckles for not paying attention to a persons diet and change of seating position. A sore developed in hospital is actually a sign of neglect on their behalf, and the organisation can be taken to the cleaners because of it.
Take careπ
Thankyou Kimmyb-83, for your advice, I am now sitting on my ROHO cushion which is meant for my wheelchair but I also use it in my armchair as well. I know what you mean about eating healthy, luckily I like all the right foods, I don't eat much in the way of junk food. Thankyou you again, I wish you both well βοΈπ
