Hello ianmac2 .

I'm Japan readings below 90 will prompt the doctor to evaluate you for home oxygen therapy. I believe in the U.K. it may be below 88 ? Above 90 is considered okay. So, 87 is a bit on the low side although not drastically so. Are you on oxygen constantly or just when ambulatory? And do you take these readings at rest? Or when you are walking? If the readings are low with your oxygen in use, you may want to consult with your doctor or respiratory nurse about adjusting your oxygen levels.

I hope you are having a good evening so far.

Kind wishes.

If you are not on oxygen therapy it is on the low side and I would consult with your GP and/or respiratory clinic.

Hi 02 saturations can vary for many reasons. In my case due to my arthritis I can get a reading of 92 on one finger and 98 on another. Also if your hands are cold you can get lower readings. Also be aware that nail polishes can affect readings etc. Some of the cheaper devices can give inaccurate readings. My advice would be the next time you see your GP take your Oximeter with you to compare your reading to theirs. My own reads lower than my GPs.
