Air hunger

I feel like I have air hunger. I feel like I need to take a deep breath all the time and when I do I don't get full satisfaction from it. This has been going on for a good few months. I have had a chest xray and had blood tests and all have come back normal. Anyone any ideas?

Hello SteveGA .

I'm sorry to sound impertinent, but are you if an average weight for your height? Sometimes being overweight can cause breathing difficulties. I hope I don't offend you. That was just my thought.

I hope you find answers soon.

No I'm not offended at all. I'm not overweight but my diet isn't great either so maybe this is something I will try and change. Thanks for the help!

I suffered from this after going to the hospital many times turned out I had developed an anxiety disorder. They put me on a small dosage of lorasapam I had to take for about a year. I am off the medication now and seem to be ok. Don't know if that will help or not.

Yeah this helps, thanks for that. I certainly don't feel anxious but will look in to it

I'm going through this the past couple days bit i have a hiatal hernia and when my stomach gets full of air from eating or breathing treatment the buldge puts pressure on my lungs but after a few hours of build up and i start burping or passing gas i do breath a little better

SteveGA in reply toSjf129903

How did they diagnose a hiatal hernia? Would it show up on a chest xray?

They put a scope down your throat can't remember what the test is called but i had eating problems as I would have a hard time swallowing like my food got stuck

It's called an 'endoscopy'.

I have the same, I had a Barrium Swallow looking for hiatus hernia. Turned out I did not have that but low mobilitry of food reaching my stomach and soemthing else I can't spell. I was refered to a speech threarapist to learn how to swallow a different way, like you I had problems with swallowing and food getting stuck mainly on the right side of my throat.

SteveGA - If all the test have come back negative, yxietyou could be looking at anxiety as that can cause breathing difficulties. Anxiety comes in more than one form and is sneaky, well worth talking to your doctor sbout, may invoke some lateral thinking...

Hi Steve what you state in your post can be due to a number of causes both physical and psychological. It would appear that a number of physical causes have been ruled out so perhaps the other causes need to be looked at. It is well known within our community that stress and anxiety can make your breathing worse. It is fairly common and at times self for filling. The more you worry the worse it becomes and so on. Are there times it becomes worse? I would suggest you talk to your GP.

My symptons are worse when I am sitting down. When I'm up and moving about it don't notice it as much. When I wake in the morning my stomach feels really empty and gurgly which never really happened before.

Hi. Sorry you are experiencing air hunger- it is awful -and starts happening to me of an evening. I go outside and try to get some (fresh)? air, and also use my inhaler -even though it does not really help, at least I feel there is something I can try. It can quite often cause severe anxiety (when first diagnosed I actually had a panic attack which sent me to A and E).

I have just had a lung function test. Is it normal to have to wait 2 weeks for results? I was told I would receive a letter with results but still haven't received anything?
