I'd like to join discussions about emphysema. I was diagnosed 12 years ago. I am now 79. I believe I am in the moderate state. FEV 63%. I just started oxygen around the clock at 2L. Did you guys know we should all be on a special diet to live longer? If you have a computer, look it up. Big thing: NO SALT. Plus only eat chicken or fish. NO red meat. No pop or booze. Bunch of other stuff. Best wishes

Emphysema
Yes I know it and I never eat fish so my diet is a little off the required - been looking for recipes that I can cook and eat here in the middle east - had some success and help from here as well but boy is it hard
I've just twigged about Turkey mince Andy. Bought several packs in Waitrose yesterday. I'm very pleased, back on the menu will be meatballs, chilli con carne, lasagne, shepherds or cottage pie (with sweet potato on top) and perhaps turkey burgers if I can work that out. I'll change the colour & flavour with different herbs, spices, stock, garlic, lemon zest, tomato purée ect. I also got some pasta made from lentils to try....I'm on low carbs & very low sugar to try to get blood sugar down.
Shopping was useless in Libya, meat was £1 per lb whether offal or fillet steak. So naturally, the children were brought up on fillet steak! Not so hot there though so plenty of seasonal Mediterranean veg & salad & we lived on an orange farm so scrumped regularly.
Yes I buy a lot of chicken mince and when I can find it Turkey as well. My burgers are basically mince onion carrot and a little flour. Lasagne is also a regular bake but I often get a local restaurant to deliver it much easier and for about £7 I get a good three meals from one delivery
Not sure how it was in Libya but here I never buy whole chicken or whole Turkey the chickens are a big as pigeons and turkeys about as big as small chickens so generally buy breast meat only.
As for steak - never buy it the last time I had a good steak was at the new Four Seasons Hotel in Manama but never again will I pay £200 for two people for a steak meal without wine or alcohol
What's this with the no salt Dufuss? I know salt is a concern for some kinds of high blood pressure but have never heard of it being a problem (consumed in moderation) for copd. I use himalayan pink salt which has a nice mild taste - would never use chemical table salt.
Do you have a link about salt and the other food things you mention that you could post?
