A lot of people have an Oximeter. The little thing that clamps on your finger giving oxygen level and pulse rate. I only use mine when short of breath, ill or coming down with something. Mine's a Biosync, about £18 via Amazon.
If you are referring to Sats. then it is just short for Blood Oxygen Saturation Level usually expressed as a percentage. They are obtained using a "Pulse Oximeter", looks a little like a very large peg that you insert a finger into.
oximeter look on line can get them for has little has £12 x
Hi I bought my oxymeter from Lidle due to someone very kindly letting us know on here. £22 I believe I paid, that was just a couple of weeks ago, sometimes they still have them in stock for a while. Good luck. X
Argos also stocks them.
Can I ask please, and don't want to sound thick, like I say I'm fairly new to this, but why do you measure your oxygen, if it's low then wouldn't you notice it in your bteathing? Thinking if I get one I will be on it all the time and get paranoid, I get so confused with all this at times, it's like I've been told I got bronchiectasis and copd here's a leaflet see you in 6 months all my info I have found on here, would be lost without you guys thank you xx
Some people’s sats drop on exertion and it is good to keep an eye on them as if they drop below a certain value you may need to have further testing done. Also when some people are getting an infection or starting an exacerbation their sats may be lower than normal and are one of the first indications of an infection or exacerbation.
A pulse oximeter also helped me work out which exercises were better for me, as some exercises make my heart race too fast. And like others, I use it to check my oxygen saturation if I'm feeling unwell, or in an unusual situation like flying in a plane or going to a higher than normal altitude in a cable car, etc.
I use my oximeter for reassurance-they are not expensive and if you are feeling tight chested and/or wheezy then once you have checked your sats and your oxygen level is normal you don't get anxious which can make your breathlessness worse.
I have an oximetrr, and a peak flow device. I use them every couple of weeks, especially this time of year, as ive just got over an exacerbation. It reassures you that its ok. If its not ok then a trip to docs to get checked. Its a good thing to have ( my opinion), so you can keep an eye on oxygen level, but thats just my opinion, everyone must make their own decisions. Please don’t panic.
