I was recently in hospital in the North West and I was given Ceftazidime for 11 Days on IV. This was to help a bad chest infection, I suffer with severe Bronchiectasis I have one lung and I am on oxygen 24/7. I just wanted too know if any one else had this type IV whilst in Hospital? and for how many days? I am usually put on Tazacin for 14 Days but not this time.
Kind regards
Joe

Yes, quite often. I also have Bronchiectasis and get Pseudomonas colonies in my lungs. I usually have 15 or 16 days in hospital. Last time I also had pneumonia and they had to give me a more powerful drug. I was put on oxygen and was unconscious for five days.
Maybe you didn't have enough of the Cephtazidime. The optimal duration of IVs for people with Bronch is 14 days.
I've never had that drug but have heard good reports on it from HU members. I usually have Tazocin or Meropenem but as neither of these worked for me on recent trips to hospital, maybe it's time to change.
When you say you have only one lung, do you mean your left lung has been surgically removed ? I'm just curious because my left lung is completely destroyed from scarring but removing it doesn't seem to be an option. So it's just sitting there as a pool of infection, continually infecting my 'good' lung.
Take care and hope you manage to keep the winter bugs at bay.
Hi there Billiejean, my left lung was removed when I was 6 months old. I developed pneumonia in it whilst in Hospital and it filled with blood and wasn’t functioning properly so it was decided it was better to remove it. Thank you so much for coming back to me on the Cephtazidime question.
