Horrid isn't it lets hope your GP has a time when he she is bloated x
Hello beejaykay .
Up until a few weeks ago I was feeling pretty bloated too. I have tried to lessen the bloating by reducing my food intake and eating lightly. I am eating more fruit and vegetable and carbohydrates. I don't know if this has really been effective, but I am definitely feeling less bloated. I always felt it just takes ages to digest meals and until they are digested I feel bloated and out of breath.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Take it easy.
Cas xx 😃
Many thanks Caspiana. It seems there is no answer to this problem.Beejaykay
Like caspiana I suffered with bloating and pain that put me in hospital for 2 nights with high temperature. The gall stones I have had for years were a suspect and I was told to have a fat free diet and was treated with IV antibiotics. I had a scan and phoned for results yesterday and told it showed multiple stones. Will get a clinic appointment soon. Like caspiana my new way of eating is really helping, smaller meals often and plenty of veg and fruit and home made soups .Never buy anything that shows red on label for fat and my skin is so much better too. Hope you find what causes your painful symptoms soon. Joyce
Hi there Beejaykay, and welcome. I can't say I've heard of bloating problems, I have very severe copd and haven't had that. Have you had a word with a pharmacist, your doctor obviously is of no help to you which is very bad of him., his attitude stinks. . Are you registered with a Consultant at the hospital?
Welcome beejaykay
white, bread, flour, pasta, cakes and pastries made with white flour especially the commerical white flour used in mass production of food items, can cause bloating.
Do a bit of research on foods the bloat.
In addition the volume of food can cause the bloat making it really difficult to breathe, any fizzy drinks will result in bloating.
Regular exercise also important and drinking plenty of water
But yes if you are being seen at the hospital its good to rule out any abnormal digestive or gastric problem.
Thanks Bkin for your time and your care.BJK
That is a ridiculous statement by your doctor without any investigation as to what the cause might be. I used to have a lot of problems with bloating and simply stopping soda pretty much eliminated the problem for me. Someone else mentioned fizzy drinks and that indeed caused my problems.
You could try reducing your salt intake too. A lot of prescribed meds are potassium losing and make blood sodium levels raised, leading to water retention.
It is a nasty complaint and fortunately my GP was more sympathetic and prescribed Gaviscon Advance which really does help. I hope your GP listens to you the next time you see him/her xx
Hi Beehaykay,
I too have been to my Doctor for Bloating.. She pressed on tummy found nothing unusual , so arranged blood tests which have proven to be ok. I had a Bowel Test which I do yearly, that was clear. I eat the right foods, portion control, have the odd glass of wine, don't smoke, exercise at Rehab, Breathe Easy. Gym...And I'm NOT Pregnant. LOL.
I have to Blame the Steroid intake form the Twice daily Symbicort 400 inhaler which I have have been Puffing on for about 5/6 Years and the odd times I have to take Prednisolone. It Was explained that the Air we take in and does not get into our lungs has to go somewhere, as The Lungs are now very large the Air gets pushed down into the Abdominal area...I think that makes sense. So, my Size 10 will never come back, I am a permanent size 14 which I hate. I also have Oxygen( could be this?) to keep me going till I get a Lung Transplant...We Joke about the Oxygen and call it a lot of Gas bloating me up... I will Follow you(if you don't mind), to see if things improve.... Merry Christmas...Eat, Drink be Merry, it's only once a Year...... love Carolina XXX
I too have bloating and have had a batch of tests for IBS didn’t think about being connected to my COPD but steroids will also bloat you best think Ive discovered is a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar teaspoon of honey in warm water. Really great for heart burn too almost instant
Hi Beejay,
Are you on any medication?
The bloating is caused by the stomach pushing on the diaphragm. It helps to eat little and often, as the lungs can become over inflated when you eat. At the same time, certain medications can affect the stomach and cause this feeling. I was on Anora Ellipta and I had very bad problems with my stomach, which the nurse told me was to do with my age not the medicine. It's rather odd that as soon as I stopped the medicine my stomach was OK again.
Let me know. It's a horrible feeling and your Doctor sounds extremly unsympathetic.
Hi beejaykay , a cup of peppermint tea helps me, Sheila x
I was advised to eat 5 small meals a day rather than one big one and two smaller ones. I really cannot be bothered to prepare 5 meals so I stay the the main one around 6pm but greatly reduced portions. Bloating seems to come with COPD Emphysema and I take so many different pills for so many different conditions I am not surprised I feel boated and suffer lots of indigestion. Doctors can be dismissive I thin because often people tell me I look well when inside I am in bits and very unwell. Maybe the Doc fails to see how ill you are.
Hi beejaykay. Your doctor is obviously ignorant regarding this COPD condition, which makes one wonder if he/she has any interest and knowledge in this area of medicine at all.
Here are a couple of very informative and knowledgeable articles on this condition which you may find helpful.
