How long can you live with moderate copd?
life expectancy: How long can you live... - Lung Conditions C...
life expectancy
A very long time especially if you do things like stop smoking if you smoke; keep healthy and active as possible and learn about how to manage COPD.
Get yourself a diet and an exercise sheet by going to the British Lung Foundation website and print them off. With good general health there is no reason that COPD should shorten your life.

Hi
COPD is an umbrella term for lots of .lung conditions you should discuss this with your health professionals, as this is a very individual question that shouldn't be answered by people on here.
Alexann, you may need to look up the definition of ‘forum’.
I think that such a general question as was asked can be answered by myself or anyone else based on subjective experience and do not think you can judge my capability to respond.
In fact, in my experience it is harder to get an answer to a question like that from ‘your health professionals’ than to get a variety of responses from people here, which may be why the question was asked on an open forum.
Just saying
Hi, all I was trying to point out that it's a difficult question without knowing what exactly was the diagnose, and everyone is very different I don't think we are qualified to say how long for anybody . Just saying
Alexann, I apologise for being a smarty pants with my post. I was tired and in a bad mood and I was rude and patronising. You simply expressed your view too.
I hope you can accept my apology and I did not hurt your feelings.
I have a huge talent for being stupid.

Assuming its a general question, the general belief is you don't necessarily die from COPD.
As others have said if you keep off cigs, eat healthily, get to a good BMI, daily exercise, avoid infections & coughs & colds you could stay moderate for many years.
But the one thing that's consistent about this condition is it affects us all differently and I guess some may progress quicker than others.
As others have said we don’t necessarily die from COPD -
The keys to staying well are :
Compile a self care plan
Educate yourself about COPD
Request a referral to a Pulmonary Rehabilitation course if you haven’t already done one ?
Eat a super healthy diet
Take your medication as prescribed
You can also join the Facebook page COPD UK, if you live in the UK - great support network
Smile 😊
Remember we are all different !
I am 15 years since diagnosis...age 69
Severe on diagnosis, moderate for a good few years now and started Ambulatory Oxygen therapy this year.
Now off to the gym ....

There is a study conducted in Australia that a female person with COPD has a life expectancy of 20 to 22 years from phase 1 to the end. In men the hope is shorter by reducing to 18 years. Having said that, it is important to have the notion of reality, but this does not invalidate that in fact this condition affects all of different forms. I'm still in the early stages of the disease, but I quit smoking, I exercise. I took the flu and pneumonia vaccines and hope that science on the way brings me good news. I'm going to give my best, aware that it is not an easy path but possible.
I've had Copd for 24 years i still do marathon walks for charity walking is good but the best thing for me is playing the Harmonica everyday I have four half hour sessions a day i am on ventolin spiriva and seretide I'm 71 now and will keep up my walking and Harmonica playing as long as I can.

There are some of on this forum that have been here for years, there doesn't appear to be a time span, just enjoy what you have it's only mild so you could go to be a hundred and get the famous card just maybe not from the Queen by then. Take your time, exercise well and eat a healthy diet, don't push yourself take a step or two back.
