Cold temperature - on a serious note

Does anyone else have a naturally low body temperature? Mine is always below 36 in winter for no medical reason that anyone can fathom. Bloods are all fine and Thyroid function is good, been checked a lot for this and there's no explanation other than we all have different temps.

I started taking Selenium this winter as only thing dr could suggest is maybe stress related. Trouble is not only does it make me cold but it can effect my concentration and short term memory, these two things common for low body temperature apparently. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and it's bit difficult as I have a busy life with a ton of things to remember! I always wrap up and have heating on etc, today I'm wearing my daughters thermal ski under top! I eat very healthily and do not drink alcohol often at all. Being low also opens the body up to more viruses and infections, not good for me at all.

Any one else with the same problem or any suggestions to help get me heated up would be wonderful?

It's sounds as though you're active, if not try some exercise each hour, marching on the spot for three minutes.

A friend gets fine silk under garments from Patra, they're not bulky at all. Long johns and long sleeved tops. Have a look on line, might be worth a try. People with Reynauds wear the gloves & socks. I think natural fibres are warmer. No gaps, ie between socks and trouser leg, wrists is my motto when out in the cold.

Good luck. Peege

Thank you, I have low blood pressure too so not sure if the two things go hand in hand. I'm active but yes need to get more exercise I think I like swimming but am worried about getting cold. An aerobics class would prob be better. I'm always doing something and on my feet at work but that's not same as an actual physical exercise really.

The consultant advised me to get a housebike, I got a crosstrainer in the end so I can move arms and legs. He told me slow endurance was better than fast cardio, so I started slowly in september and built up to 30mn a day.

I went swimming every other day until I went to see my mother and now I have returned it is so cold that I don’t think it is a good idea.

I take 2 puffs of Ventolin and 2 puffs of Atrovent 15mn before exercising or going out for a walk, especially now it is so cold, it will prevent airways to restrict.

Thank you, exercise bike sounds great. I'm seeing specialist again Friday I'm going to talk to her about body temperature, it's really not nice being cold all the time, my face is always tingling and it's hard to enjoy anything, it sounds a little thing but actually it's really not only inconvenient but very unpleasant, previous years it's not been so bad but this winter been awful prob made totally worse by an awful bronc infection in October.

I so need to go live in a hot country!

My body temperature is always below 36, unless I am ill. My blood pressure is also lowish. I used to feel very cold as a child and tend to feel the cold now, but otherwise I don't think it has any effect on my health. I take a lot of exercise and eat well. My only concern is that medical professionals may not take into account my normal body temperature and decide that my temperature isn't raised when I am getting unwell because it is still within the upper 'normal' range.

I also have a normal body temp of 35.5 - 36.5 and have to remind medics when they take my temperature. They usually accept that anything above 37 needs attention. I also feel the cold and need to wrap up warmly. xx Moy

Right, I think mine is in the lower part but a little lower at present I had a nasty Bronc virus throughout October so that probably affected it I should think. I will speak to the consultant about what exercise may help, problem is I'm quite petite anyway and don't actually want to lose weight so it'll be question of eating the right things with the exercise so weight doesn't come off, I only weigh 8 stone and am 5ft 3inches so don't want to get any smaller. Ive started to wear my snood indoors to cover my head as that's where heat gets lost it helps.

Wish I could live somewhere hot though!

Yes I've got a snood and hat and thermal leggings! And super thick duvet, although find if I wake up in the night I feel really warm as when I go to bed I'm freezing to start with.

A few years ago I bought an electric duvet (it's called Sleepwell.) Absolute heaven! 9 different settings, heats up in just a few minutes, and is so light. I can stretch out in any direction & not encounter any cold spots. Lovely to get back into after a nighttime trip to the loo. HIGHLY recommend you get one.

I've always had a lower than average body temperature. I deal with it by layering my clothes, and not worrying about what others think of my unique sense of style.

I ordered some ski socks and ski gloves hopefully they'll be super warm

Get yourself a heated top. I really feel the cold and it's changed my life as I can still go out for walks on cold days. It's battery operated and lasts about five hours each charge Good luck
