I've fixed too many HP's to recommend anyone buying one. Desktops, not a problem, but their laptops are a nightmare to repair
I have an Asus. I like it very much.
What's the os? Still a bit steep at £350
8 that's wots bothering me got used to it on the mobile and its a pain xxx
£300 on ebay - ebay.co.uk/itm/290908909743
I have an old Asus that's still going strong, must be 8 years old now. Step-daughter bought one very similar spec to the one you're looking at, but 6Gb RAM, about a year ago for a similar price.
What os is it on, Gordon? And I take it that it's a 64 bitt one?
It's the same model and everything, brand new, boxed, Windows 8 64 bit, touchscreen, Intel® Pentium B987, 4Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD, free delivery... S200E-C157H is the model number. There isn't a S220E that I could find.
I use ebay as long as I can see good feedback, although this seller does not have a high number of sales and it's not a business address, a rented flat...
And that's when I'd be tempted to walk away smartish....
Unless they've 100%, I won't do business with them.
I didn't check when I looked first time, but something rang a bell when azaard said they didn't buy on ebay, so I looked a bit closer. No, I wouldn't have bought it either, I'd have looked for a genuine trade seller.
Even using paypal, I'm wary about who I buy off of on ebay. There are a good few reputable traders on there, and I've probably dealt with most, especially for computer components, and indeed os's. Unless they've got a proven track record, I'm not buying.
You could pick up a Dell for a lot cheaper
:argos.co.uk/static/Product/...
and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure if you shopped around, you could find similar for a lot less.
The Asus I looked at was running windows 8 - now you knew that's my bugbear. Don't like touch screens, and I don't like windows 8. When you tear off all the apps, all you're really left with is Windows 7.... Check and see if the mobo has the os embedded. Microsoft are playing sneaky - and folks can't downgrade their os, if they decide they don't like windows 8. They are stuck with it until Microsoft can take more money off them for an upgrade.
Wouldn't buy another Asus, if you gave me the money, bought a netbook 4 months ago, and it is pants!
What sort of problems are you having with it? I'm interested to know, I've a friend that's not too impressed - already sent his back twice under warranty.
Go to microdirect website - they are doing the same make and model for £249 ..... x x x
Lots of variables to consider when buying a laptop. Will it always be on your desk - if so you can go for the biggest screen you can afford. If you want to carry it around then you need to get one that is small and lightweight. etc etc. But, whatever you buy, get it from somewhere close and reliable so that you can take it back instantly if it (or you) needs support in any way. It's really the old wallpaper problem, too many books to choose from...
