Hi my name is Jan and new to site. I am 63 an ex smoker for 10 years. I have had a very nasty chest infection twice for the last 2 years, is this a sign of things to come? My mother has COPD is 94 and suffers terribly, I think maybe I will be the same as I tend to follow her in many health problems. Any advise on staying healthy would be appreciated. Best wishes to all on this site. Regards Jan xxx

Chest Infections
Chest infections can occur for many reasons it's not always COPD so you won't necessarily go down that road.
But I would suggest the basics, watch your alcohol intake, eat plenty of fibre, low fat yogurts and always get your 5 a day. Plenty of water throughout the day and herbal teas have plenty of health benefits. Regular exercise like brisk walking everyday and maybe swimming which is good for all your muscles. Two spoons a day of Manuka honey, certificate 15+ has a variety of benefits. Mostly Ben happy Andy positive as I think state of mind plays a huge part in our overall health.
And if your mums 94 then she's obviously been doing something right!
All good advice. My son has interstitial lung disease and he does all of the above. Keeping a good mental attitude has been the hardest for him. He s 42 and married with 2 boys, and is on the list waiting for a double lung transplant. He keeps as active as he can, he eats well (I make lots of soup as he s vegetarian). He needs a high protein diet to prepare for the operation. Occasionally he withdraws into himself and it's the boys who get him out of it. Good luck to you. Keep busy. Make sure you do things that you like to do. After all you suffers are so brave coping with your conditions that "Me time is very important. X
That honey works. I'm going to buy a jar tomorrow.
Thank you for sound advise
