Well said, I for one support our war heroes and those who have bravely given their lives for us 100 per cent ...... this is our chance to show our thanks to all those that protect us and I proudly wear my poppy.
Surely it is not only for those who made the ultimate sacrifice but also for the millions of others who stood by their sides making the same commitment but who Fate chose to send home, their bodies and minds horribly maimed and left to go on making that final moment for the rest of their lives?
You are so right RibvanRey , the cruelty of war mamed and tortured many. There are even families whose loved ones never came home, they never had the chance to grieve, no closure, no chance to say goodbye. Forever hopeful, always wondering, passing their tormented thoughts onto the next generation... so sad.
The poppy in my opinion is a stark reminder of the consequences of war, the red blood of our forefathers (and mothers) running through the battle fields. It is a symbol of the freedom we all enjoy today and the high price that was paid.
In sufferer2 ’s most profound, meaningful and heartfelt words, the poppy is represented in such an eloquent manner. However, although the words of the poem focus on those who died, every person will have their own thoughts and interpretation of what the poppy means to them.
Thank you for the poem, some of us are the families of our heroes past, present, wounded, or gone for ever. There is always a poppy in my window and I wear mine every year not only for my family but also their freinds who fought bravely, so we can have a peaceful future.
