Very moving, I've not heard this before, did you write it ?I was in Selby on Monday and all the railings round the Abbey are decorated with hand made poppies, made, I believe, by volunteers in the town, a wonderful sight, I'll see if I can put a pic on here. X
I wrote this a few years ago after reading a report that said that around one in three under-25s are unlikely to wear a poppy. The main reason for this was given that they felt bullied into supporting the appeal (heavens above) and around a fifth of those who object to poppies say they believed it glorifies war. We need to change these attitudes in our young if this is what they believe.
The Poppy Appeal raises around £43 million a year for service personnel and veterans - this year, on the centenary of the end of WWW1, let's make it £143 million. 👍👍👍👍👍
As a forces veteran parent now, with quite a few of my family having served in varied forces I cannot understand why people create such a fuss about poppy rememberance, we honour our dead families with floral tributes so why not those who gave there lives that we might live in peace. Thank you for your special poem much appreciated.
