Fatigue

Hi everyone hope you are well or at least coping with your illness,I was wondering if those of you who like myself have bronchiectasis have at times been laid low with the terrible fatigue that sometimes comes with it like last evening I was waiting for a program that I'd wanted to for long time was just about to start when I thought I can't do this and all but crawled into my bed fully dressed, this doesn't happen very often but when it does it is terribly debilitating,I'm fine today, tired but definitely not as bad, thanks,Ger

Have definitley Been there and done that take care

Yes I suffer from fatigue but there is a cause to it which can be treated. Mention it to the doctor:specialist at your next visit.

For me apart from dyspnea which tires you out it was the low cortisol, so now I am on steroids.

The physiotherapist said to me once don’t let the fatigue set in..

Take care xx

Hello Ger.

I think most people with chronic illness whether it's lung related or otherwise suffer from fatigue. It really is one of it's hallmarks.

There have been times when cooking dinner or even trying to tie my hair up has made me need to lie down and not get up again for several hours.

I think all of us here can relate. Be gentle with yourself. Do what your body tells you. It seems to know best.

Take good care.

Hi Ger,

Thanks for asking this question - I was going to ask the same thing. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in August and seem to just hit a wall of tiredness I can't get through.

Typically late evening when I'm preparing to go to bed I suddenly need to lie on the sofa. It makes no sense to me - surely I should be able to do last preparations for the morning, take inhalers/tablets and go upstairs... but I can't. Just crash on the sofa and wake up an hour or two later. (It also happens at other times of the day.)

Not sure if this is fatigue or extreme tiredness, or what the difference is. It isn't muscular, I just seem to stop functioning. The rest of the time I'm active and feel mostly ok - tired sometimes but in a more ordinary way.

Wishing you all the best Ger, and everyone here.

Rachel :-)

Hi 67ger

Yes I'd say fatigue and avoiding viruses are the hardest things in my life!

With fatigue it's so hard to say how much is real or " in your head!"

Having read your post and all the replies though makes me feel better as well!! X

So sorry I forgot to say Winter hope your coping.. please keep wsrm

in reply towinter2013

Hi Winter,no fun is it I used to work 16 shifts and was of course really tired at times bus this is summit else worst case scenario for me was when my daughter took me to phone shop as we were about to enter I said can't go on I'm going to have to lay down on the footpath but shopkeeper kindly brought me out a seat, must admit that was really extreme in march of 2013 I took a viral infection and was on life support for 10 days so honestly don't know if I've fully recovered from that or Bronchiectasis or combination of two but today I'm absolutely fine so I'm enjoying the moment 😁

Hi fatigue is not uncommon also with emphysema persons, I find it almost daily. Know what you mean when it overtakes you, all you can do is press on. Good luck

Unfortunately fatigue is integral to emphysema, it takes a lot of willpower to force yourself to get up & go. The re-hab sessions help you into the patten of exercise but boy it's difficult on your own always better with people of your own ability. Keep trying the exercises they always tell you it's good for you.
