Ibuprofen!

My doctor prescribed me ibuprofen for back pain along with co codamol. When the doc asked me if I had asthma I replied no but I have copd. The doctor said I would be ok to take the ibuprofen. After 3 days I am feeling breathless and wheezing but it is helping with the pain. I will go back to the docs on Monday but will it be ok to continue taking them until then? Has anyone else felt like this when take either of these tablets? Thanks for any help and advice anyone can give.

Hi I think it may be the cocodamol as I have been taking them for back pain and have been more breathless of late . My gp did say they can make you breathless if you have copd or Emphysmea

I was told by my doctor not to take indulgence with copd as they interfere with your breathing so I just take paracetamol

Thanks, that's what I thought but my doctor said it was ok to take. As Lynn1955 said I am thinking it is more the co codamol causing it now.

Thanks, I wonder if it is just if you are asthmatic it can cause problems. Hopefully I'll be ok until Monday as the pain is so bad I don't want to stop taking either x

Hi laines, Ibuprofen is a no no with Asthma and can effect those with COPD. In my case they effect me straight away in respect of worsening the breathing as do naproxen. If they are not effecting you too much I'd risk it till Monday when you see doctor if they are easing the pain. I take naproxen in short spates at times of increased pain flare ups. Not familiar with co codamol interactions so can't say. Best wishes for Monday.

Hi had similar problems and it transpired that Ibruprofen is an anti inflamatory which always has an adverse effect on Copd/Asthma sufferers, co codamol, I've never found any good except it can make you constipated, personally I would keep off both.

I am thinking the same, unfortunately the pain is too bad to stop them until I can get back to the docs! I'm eating lots of fruit and fibre to try to counteract the constipation 😂

I take the NSAID etodolac now as the NSAIDs ibuprofen and naproxen caused me problems. Etodolac is a receptor specific NSAID which helps the pain without affecting the lungs and stomach.

Hi Laines, I found an article online that may explain your ibuprofen and asthma related question. Here is the link.....hope this helps!

medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

If a person with asthma has an allergic reaction to ibuprofen or another medicine, it can often cause wheezing or shortness of breath. Ibuprofen can also worsen asthma symptoms by causing the airways to narrow in a condition known as bronchospasm.
