I really like this as it give us all a quite basic overview of lung function testing.and i will quote from one of the paragraphs within the article.

Computerized interpretations:

Many of the test systems used in doctor's offices and in clinics will include a computer

interpretation of your test results. These interpretations are necessarily simplistic and their

accuracy is very dependent on the quality of the test results. A computerized interpretation

should be reviewed by a qualified professional before it becomes part of your medical record.

specifically the last sentence as i am convinced that as useful a tool that it is for us all we still need to sit down and discuss the results with the consultant who will hopefully provide and implement the best course of action and treatment in order to maintain our health in the future,Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Morning. I'm ok thank you. Getting weird things happening from reducing the steroids though.

Still getting totally different messages from the consultants. You'd think they'd all agree to stick to the story would you 😜

One example is you have asthma, next a habit cough.... 18 months later...NSIP and NO bronchiectasis, then NSIP AND bronchiectasis, then NSIP and NO bronchiectasis. It's nearly funny 😜 but not quite!!!

Hence my own research to help me to 'try to' understand my results.

Well you'd think at least one of them would be definite wouldn't you? I'm tempted to ask if there's a specialist unit in your area that you could ask to be referred to? If you haven't already that is?

I'm ok, haven't had a terribly good summer, due back at RBH in October, to see the big guns. The OB has changed, symptomatically, and I don't really understand where it's going? Hope they can give me some answers. Just plodding along and trying to lose the steroid weight 😔😔

I've just read your other post about various drugs and steroid reduction. My lungs respond better to doxycycline (antibiotics).

The steroids are terrible for putting weight on in various places! That doesn't help either does it

So sorry your summer hasn't been good. My recent appointment was at RBH Bracknell.

By the way, they offered to refer me to Oxford ILD specialists. I'm going to have my ext scan in three weeks and another lung function test so I said I'll see what's what then. Perhaps you might get the offer of another centre?

I think if you're not too good still I'd contact RBH and ask to be seen earlier.

Have you had the in depth tests, they give a better result, eg just a percentage of how well your lungs are working, and test your oxygen levels while walking. e.g. for me 25% of lungs functioning, oxygen levels not dropping so all good there. Lung transplant an option, but too healthy at the moment. Best advise exercise, stay away from smokers !

Hi I've had the full works. It's the information I'm given and more to the point not given, that's been a difficulty. This time I've asked for a copy of the print out of the full report. You're doing very well and long may that last. You're right, exercise is key.

What's also interesting is that when I recently participated in a research project, the very highly qualified doctor running it administered a spirometry test. Before I started, he said "I guarantee this will be better than you get in clinic!" I do wonder what effect the person running it has on the result - it does run do a very familiar script ("keep going! keep going! keep going!") and you must get a bit jaded if you're doing a couple of dozen every day.
