Oh yes takes a while to get over as well rest and rest paracetemol and brufen if you can take them for pain get better soon xx
Thank you
Good day , yes this is quite normal i have had bronco pneumonia last year and even after the antibiotic course etc the pain take 2 - 3 days to subside . You may feel week at times , but recovery is quick .
Ravz, most people take quite a while to recover. You must be pretty fit if you did recover quickly and that;s great, but I wouldn't want people to feel there was something wrong if it took longer. Depending how severe your lung condition is it can take between 6 weeks to 6 months to get back to normal. But important to keep in touch with your GP if you feel it's taking too long.
With pneumonia, it is usually 4 to 8 weeks in hospital. Most of it with additional pain as you describe MaryBray.
Hope you heal quickly, Rib
Thank you for the reply
Took 3 weeks to get the results back to my G.P from the hospital , I'm not that fortunate to have a doctor's with a xray suite and radiographer to hand.
Yes I am sorry about that error. My drugged up brain misread your post and did not see "results".
I did immediately Edit my post and removed that paragraph. Which you will see if you reload the page on your Browser.
Sorry for the confusion.
Best wishes, Rib
Hi Rib - good to see you again. Sounds as if you are not feeling too good and hope you will soon be feeling better.
Hi, thank you. Just getting over a big exacerbation. Fed up with but very grateful for the nebulisers. No infection but just a great difficulty in breathing. Plus lots of extra pain due to all the hacking caused by the nebs. So plenty of extra Oramorph. Mainly just living in a daze but what else is there to do lol.
Regards Rib
I dont understand. If you have phneumonia you usually get a very high temperature and you cant do anything for the first few days. For me i am always sick as a dog with it.
Not always hopetorun . Which is why pneumonia can be very dangerous. Sometimes there are very few symptoms and even if there are they seem mild. 😊
Hi
Thanks for the reply, apart from pain in my ribs and lower back , pain is constant.i can honestly say I've not felt really poorly , just not felt myself , and I've been working 50ish hrs a week. Fatigue as been horrible though, but with another medical thing I've got going on I honestly put it down to that ( menopause) ..3rd day on antibiotics so hoping few days and fighting fit again .
Hello Marybray, hope the antibiotics are starting to work, don't rush things, take care and I am sure you will feel better soon. It is usual to have pain with this , rest is the most important think to do right now.
I've been diagnosed with mycoplasmosis pneumonia and ended up spending 10 days in hospital on IV antibiotics, nebuliser and oxygen.
Been discharged just over a week ago with no meds, only a blue asthma pump thingie (I have never had an asthma or any other respiratory condition before).
What can I say, I feel just so rough, I can't even describe it. I can't do anything because I get breathless and as soon as I start talking I get these intense coughing fits.
Also at night those coughing fits really keep me up.
So sick and tired from all this. I'm a young and healthy person, I eat clean and I have extremely active and healthy lifestyle, but this bug has really knocked me out for six.
Hope everyone on this thread is feeling well and healthy by now! Ana x
The Blue pump thingie is not just an asthma thing (although many asthma sufferers find them useful), it is a Salbutamol inhaler. It is used when you cannot get your breathe as it dilates the airways allowing you to breathe more easily. There should be a leaflet with it that shows you how and when to use it.
Emergency medics sometimes use an injected form of this medication when people are in severe breathing distress. People with regular severe difficulties are often treated with the same thing in a nebuliser form.
IMO it may be worth your while carrying the inhaler with you until all breathing issues have fully recovered. Your age and fitness before the pneumonia should help you to recover quicker than many. It is a serious illness and other countries kills thousands every year.
Take it seriously, use your inhaler and help yourself to a quicker recovery with less discomfort.
Heal well.

Poor you, it must have been a shock. Normally you are sent to hospital with pneumonia as IV act faster for a few days then you get sent home with oral tablets. So if you feel worse,in pain or breathless do call 111 etc..
I would contact the BLF helpline for advice.
Rest and drink a lot of fluids.
A hot water bottle will help with the pain.
Hope you feel better soon xx
