I have started taking NAC to see if it relieves my breathlessness which has been bad just recently. I have been taking 600 mg twice a day for the past days and I feel as though my breathing has gone worse is it the old saying it has to get worse before it gets better. Anyone any ideas.

Hi

Not all medication is suitable for everyone.

Are you taking any prescription medication that can contradict.

Taking two similar forms of medication may cancel each other out and leave you worse of.

Did you speak to your GP or Pharmacy before trying NAC.

Hi stone. No I didn't speak to my GP easier said than done. I'd read a lot of research on NAC and all of it sounded positive I an on amlodopine losartan 25mg and one uniphyllin tablet a day. Plus relvar Ellipta and seebeezer inhalers. Which I feel do nothing. I haven't got a cough or bringing any mucus up. But wondering whether to take a course of steroids. See if that will ease the breathlessness Could any of these interact with NAC. I'm going to Wales next Saturday for a week. Just want to feel ok

I have been taking it for quite awhile my lung doctor put me on it for exherbations I was going to hospital quite frequently. I believe this and Daliresp have kept me out of the hospital for 16 months now. I also weaned myself off of oxygen because my breathing was getting worse even while using started using power lung and expand a lung to build them up. I now maintain about 95 to 97 percent saturation level. When I go for walk 8 blocks it drops to 91 but goes up quickly with a short rest. This is just me though and it took weeks to get there.always looking for new things to help. Looking at breathing techniques now.

Thank you Roessner 541 for your positive reply. What you are saying NAC has done for you is what I am hoping it does for me, when I took my tablet yesterday on an empty stomach after a while it made me feel sick., I wondered if it would be better to take them with food, what dose did you find was best for you.

I take 600 twice daily sometimes I take three. I am use to taking them on an empty stomach but would probably be better with food.

Thanks again for your response. I will try what you have said with the NAC I also looked up the other medication you are on which comes under roflumilast here. As far as I know it also comes under PDE 4 inhibitor which my doctor has said she would make some enquiries about in February I am still waiting, she has give me uniphyllin for my breathing. Which I can't really feel does much.

They had to do something with me I was going to the hospital biweekly and they pretty much gave up on me, wanted to put me on hospice too. If you read all my posts you can see my plight and my journey of how I got to the place where I am now. Wasn't ready to give up easily.
