Hi π it's lady 11 , lately I am finding myself in denial . I am mild to moderate copd asthma overlap (whatever that mean). I am not too short of breathe I have no wheezing since I have been smoke free 5 months . Before I quit I was pretty bad short of breathe always coughing and wheezing like a kitten at night . Today I'm feeling very good , I go to pulmonary rehab and can do incline on treadmill of 15 ( highest it wii go ) do this for about 15 @ 2.8 - 3.5 for about 15 minutes than lower it to 8.5 @ 2.5 for another 10 min . I have no shortness of breathe . Have been trying to lose weight I'm 206 and it's been really hard to get this weight off . I was 220 . So slowly like very slowly I will get there I guess . So I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat π£ I just can't believe I have what they say ... is this the stage where it's not so bad and then gets worse from here on in ????? Anybody got any answers for me ??? Thanks π
Does it get worse??: Hi π it's lady 1... - Lung Conditions C...
Does it get worse??
Hello Lady11 .
I'm really glad that you're doing so well. It's really impossible to say if you will remain the same, get better or worse as everyone's disease progresses or doesn't in different ways. Having said that it seems like you are doing really well with the exercise and I can tell you that is a huge factor in trying to keep as well as possible for as long as possible. Now couple that with a good diet and you have a great plan of action right there. Keep going! Well done.

Thanks cas I guess I will take it as it comes .. Your right no one can really know , one thing for sure is it's not going to get any better . Just put a bandage on for awhile . I find myself doing alot of venting lately. Even wondering about this medication does it help or just prolong it . I guess it just eases the symptoms. Sorry trying to stay positive but some days π ..
Hello lady 11
Marie 22 here
It is a bit of a shock, to find yourself in this situation, but do your best, with your exercise medicines and food.
Don't know how old you are, but I first went into hospital at 80 had to go in a few times more before they got me sorted I am now 84 and a lot better sometimes! ha ha I was a bit heavy, still am but I try and get it off a bit at a time lots of walking in the fresh air
Have you been told how to breath in through the nose and out through the mouth, I find out through the nose as well is best for me. When I get a pace up. keep the PR up sounds like you are doing well.
Love marie
Hi Lady11
I don't have the same as you but I too am looking for 'answers'. I'm slowly accepting that there aren't any. Everyone is different and it seems like you are doing everything you can to be the best you can. I'm pleased you're feeling good at the moment and long may that last x
Hi, I think I had the same problem with denial. I felt so well. Like you I can do lots of things without getting short of breath. But it is denial! The disease is progressive to some degree. But you are doing all the right things, having a BMI in a normal range does help. Exercise is also an important factor in reducing progression. There is a saying use it or loose it and the more exercise the better. Lastly just by stopping smoking you have done the best thing of all as smoking is the one thing that will speed the progression. Remember COPD is not a death sentence but it down to you to make the changes to help. My last point is take your medications remembering that what's works for one may not work for all.
Thanks bad Bessie just what I needed to hear . I know I'm not alone in this denial thing.I guess it's just training the brain to think positive thoughts is a Biggy π lol. Dam I'm so glad I found this site . Lots of people to talk to ... thanks again and hope u stay well
Same here was diagnosed mild 5 years ago I am very young 57 male never smoked kept fitt all my life I have asthma to I do get a bit title chested now and again but that's down to asthma I can quick walk 9 floors airways are good so my motto is think positive do lots breathing exercises that open your lungs and think that coped is just something in your way and barge past it
That sounds like a plan . Sorry for venting negativity, But you are right copd is in my way . I really wish I hadn't been diagnosed as I feel so good since I stopped smoking cigarettes. I do know that thinking about this death π sentence is soooo non productive . I am not ,I repeat not ,going to dwell on this copd ANYMORE. I am going to think about all the positives in my life and be THANKFUL that I am able to be fit and mindful .. IT Could be so much worse . Thank you for your positive feed back . I need that positive energy from others in the same boat . I am also a very young 62 year old. I don't really count age numbers anymore . U are as old or as young as u want to be π. Your right YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE so make it count .. π€ hugs
Hello...greetings from Canada.
I have bee diagnosed recently with copd asthma overlap.
I'm also 200 pounds female.
I feel being heavy has a huge impacr on our conditions. I can't walk far or run so I feel a bit doomed.
I know the medications help but also they make me feel worse at times. I really hope you are feeling well and continue to stay well.
Changing the diet I find helps as well.
Talking to people is supportive.
You are right the diet part will help Canadian 3 . I am also living in Ontario . I think after Pulmonary rehab is over I will need to join a gym for motivation with dieting ... I know that losing weight will help my mental health as well as physical . Thanks for the motivation π€ Hugs
Lol oh I thought this was a UK site...nice to know you are in Ontario. So am i.My asthma is chronic and there's no way I can exercise. My mind says yes but body says no. It's the prednisone that puts on the weight but difficult to take off
Sorry I should he been nor especific. I did not mean drastic diet. I meant change in dietary needs. I found eliminating salty ans processed food cuts down on wheezing
I felt dreadful this morning and went on google to find some symptom relief and found this site and thought to just reply quickly.
Hope you are well...Remember you are never alone...reach out. .
LolI found this site thinking it was Canadian also but I'm glad I did .. there is a Canadian site as well .. anyway I may not have bumped into you π lol. I have not been on prednisone I have heard lots about it putting on weight . This may sound dumb but u can exercise .. there are people in my rehab that are on oxygen and can barely stand but they are exercising on the bycycles and doing the weight lifting exercising. Please don't give up .. talk to your doctor about rehab ... u can do this ... Canadian 3 please DO not rule yourself out of exercising it may be the one thing that helps . There are so many upper body exercises u can do just by sitting on a chair .. Let's do this .. I'm sure your family and friends will back me up when I say U ARe WORTH the EFFORT... hugs π€Lady 11
