Hi

The damage is irreversible, but they can treat the effects as it worsens.

Hi Mag, Have you ever worked around asbestos? That is the primary cause of your condition. The best way I know how to explain it is: think of your lungs as a hard boiled egg. When you go to peel the egg, you have to pull the thin membrane between the shell and the egg in order to peel it more easily. Now, it would be that thin membrane that covers your lung and begins to thicken. As time goes by the thicker it gets. You really should talk to your doctor who diagnosed you. I would have my list of questions ready when I went back for next visit and I would fire away. Here is a link that perhaps could help you understand your lung disease a little better. Best wishes and keep us posted.

Now Mag, you know I don't know everything. We all here try to help one another by sharing our knowledge, our experiences, different links to help us learn more, etc. I learned in 2011 that life is what you make of it. I have lung cancer and have had a lung removed, chemo, radiation, etc. and now I have another new nodule. So look, if someone had told me I would still be here in 2017...I would not believe it. Personally, if it were me, I would go back to my doctor, ask questions, make a list and see what they recommend. None of us here on this support site is going through our journeys alone. We all hold hands. You might try another support site for additional information. That would be inspire.com

Keep us posted!

Magz23 I am a 55 year old male. I was a smoker for 25 years but have quit smoking recently. I recently suffered from pneumonia & the next chest x-ray showed pleural thickening. I am very tensed about asbestos diseases. Can you please update your condition now? Do you have any asbestos related disease? What was the cause of your pleural thickening? What were your symptoms? Did you had pleural effusion?
